I have a rebuilt 440 short block that I picked up from a friend and it's got the TRW flat top replacement Pistons that are like .060 in the hole. Does anyone know what compression these are? Trying to use up all my garage finds and I came up with a 440 Torker intake, a Speedpro hydraulic cam that is 470 lift and 299 duration, [email protected], I have a couple of sets of 906 heads and one set of 516's. I just want to stick it in an old 4 door Belvedere I have and be able to spin the tires. What's your thoughts on that cam with the lower compression ratio Pistons? Should I use a thin head gasket to try and bump the compression a little? Or just bolt it together and go?

My stroked 440 has the flat tops right at "0" deck. With Indy EZ heads that have the smallish heart shaped chambers, it has 12.8 to 1 compression. I forget how many cc's they are, but it does have a significant quench area. That's something you will not be able to get with those heavy TRW's .060" down in the hole.

With a regular composite head gasket and the 906 heads your compression should be a little better than 9 to 1. With that cam it will run great. I wouldn't run the 516 heads, what compression you gain wont make up for the smaller ports. It should fry the tires no problem.

Bolt it together, & turn it loose! There's always nitrous, if you get bored..(I bet,you won't....)...

sounds like me. building a 67 Bel 1 , dropping in a low compression 400! I figure it will give me 10X in fun for what I have in it!!!!

With the 915s and thin gaskets you will really like it! I had a low compression 440 similar to yours in a 70 Cuda that was still able to pull mid 12s 112 mph at 4000 feet elevation. I would opt for a good dual plane intake if you can do some swapping unless you have a good converter.

Yeah, thought about looking around for a dual plane, its already got an Edelbrock carb and I got some pretty valve covers. Just need a cheap set of headers and I'm done.

Best car I ever had was a 1963 Dart that was gutted and had a 340 and it ran 7.90 in the eighth mile and cost a grand total of $750
