I've seen several set ups for the steering U joint. Weld in, a bolt thru steering shaft, and what appears to be set screws ? I can only see the set screws working is you drilled shallow holes in the shaft for the tip of the screws to go into ?? Am I missing something ?

Other options ?

I used one from Flaming River. It had me drill a through hole for a bolt. I can't imagine set screws could possibly work — think of the torque that goes through the shaft with manual steering. Welding seems a little extreme, and you'd be heat-cycling that end of the shaft.

Check out borgenson (sp) they have the double-d shaft and u joints to build any configuration you'd want I had to build a shaft for my 96, 4wd Dakota a few years ago when the original bound up and oem was NLA, and every one in the junkyard if anything was missing (sold already) it was that.
