Advance key for cams

I getting ready to install a new cam shaft into my small block, my question is what is the benefit or is there? to running a key that advances the cam gear. if there is a benefit. what degree should the gear be advanced ?

The key is to properly degree your cam. Look on you cam card and see what the installed centerline should be and then degree your cam to that. Plenty of info all of the web on how to degree your cam if you don't know how.
