Anyone tell me more about a filled block? Can you run more horse power, besides less water. Does it run cooler? Good for the street or just racing?

The way i understand it, filling blocks is for racing alcohol fuel only, which runs way cooler. You can't run a gas engine with no coolant, it would burn up shortly.

My stroker has a half filled block. Yes it adds strength and I have no cooling issues. If I remember correctly I filled it to the bottom of the freeze plugs.

That would be the way to do it and not fill it more than that.

Running hard block in a street engine has the risk of running hot or overheating. There's less coolant, so why would it run cooler? It can not run cooler with less coolant. Built right with a radiator large enuff to cool it is the key.

An alcohol fueled engine runs cool because the fuel is cool. Once the engine is running, the cool fuel helps it to stay cool. But not run cool all the time. The engine still heats up and can overheat.

Ran one on the street years ago with no issues. Granted, it was a mild build, someone gave me the block so I just used it. As I understand it if you only fill to the freeze plugs it "should" not effect the cooling, unless you cooling system is borderline to begin with. Reason being the majority of the heat is towards the top of the cylinders courtesy of the combustion precess. This is how an old timer explained it to me.

But... unless you are pushing say 700+ hp from a RB, is it really necessary????

Depends on what you are doing. My motor is 8 years old and sees street duty several times a month. I'm in the south so a little more in the warm weather. This 340 block (372) motor makes 540 HP at 6500 and it's shifted at 7000. I can't count the times this motor has seen 7000. It also has a girdle and H beams. What I have found through researching is the block filler helps stabilize the lower part of the cylinders from distorting. Don't have any data except a motor that has been the most reliable I have ever owned and gets regular abuse. :violent1:
