Greetings all,

I want to keep the look of my 71' Dart Swinger ( semi-hot street 360 LA motor) as close to stock looking as possible when the hood is lifted. I'm putting on an unmolested LD340 intake (yeah... I know it's not a stock piece) but I want to utilize a stock 71' 340 air-cleaner housing if possible. What carb will fit both the intake and air-cleaner housing with no mods? I need to use a 700 cfm carb minimum. Thanks for any advice!

If you have a thermoquad get a Edelbrock carb. The Holley and Carter have 2 different openings

I don't have any carb yet so I want to get the correct carb the first time. I don't want to modify either the intake or the air-cleaner assy. to fit a carb. I know a vintage TQ would fit if I ground the intake, but I don't want to do that. I don't really understand what you are saying here...

Carter has a different carb opening than a Holley. If your staying with the stock cleaner you will have to use a Carter/Edelbrock carb.

the LD340 manifold is a square bore. That air cleaner will fit Holley or the large AFB/AVS carbs. The stealth carb, my choice, would be a OEM 750 AVS off a 68-71 HP 440. Most LD340's also had a Chrysler PN cast in. Choke is the only problem. Sorry, I just noticed the "Aftermarket". The 71 air cleaner should work with Holley and 68 and newer Carter and Edelbrock Carbs.

So you're saying an OEM 750 AVS off a 68-71 HP 440 with bolt on to my LD340 intake without having to modify the intake in any way, and then a stock OEM 71' 340 air-cleaner housing will bolt on top of that carb without any modifications to the carb or air-cleaner assembly?

Yes

I have an avs from a 68 440 that I just had rebuilt by a member on here and it screams and squeals the the tires with just a toe. I have a 670 holley to try next and if I like it better the avs may sit the bench.

any carb with a 5 1/8 inch top. I had a 340 with a LD340 and a Eddy 625 Thunder Series carb (manual choke) and a 1970 340 unsilenced air cleaner . That combination work very well

all stock 340 air cleaners are 5 1/8" lower opening. all AVS and Thermoquad and Edelbrock and rochester and Holley 4 barrels since 1968 are for 5 1/8" air cleaners. the ld340 intake does not have a choke well, so any carb used on it needs an electric choke or a manual choke cable. use an Edelbrock with electric choke

Have a Holley on our 70 dart and I'm using a factory 340 air cleaner.

Had it on my 71 for many years too.

What model Holley? I know the stock air cleaner will not fit over the fuel bowls on a "4150" style Holley.

The only Holley I could see my stock '69 340 air cleaner fitting on is the last one.

i haven't had a 69 air cleaner laying around in years. i thought i had one on a holley too but its been so long ago i'm not sure.. i do know the 70 air cleaner (completely different then the 69) will easily fit a holley..
