I have what I think is a '69 and a '72 340 air cleaner and they both have 340 stickers on them. Would these be factory stickers? I'm not clear on whether some years came with stickers and some with plates. It seems the '70 340 air cleaner (elusive and expensive!) had a pie plate.

The 68-71 340 Air cleaner should have a pie tin the 70-71 air cleaner is different than the 68-69 unsilenced air cleaner. 68-71 340 air cleaners are black but shaped a bit differently. ifferently

69 340 was same as 68 340, both had a pie plate, not a sticker. 72 I believe was a sticker and the air cleaner was totally different from 69

My 340 air cleaners for 1972 are decals.
Earlier ones for the high end engines are pie plates.
Even my 66’ 273-4 commando engine had an aluminum plate with decal.
After rechroming the air cleaner I went decal for simplicity reasons

Great thread! What about colors? What determined if they were orange or black?

72 first year for orange with trapdoor...73 no trap door then also and later orange with 360 stickers...hate to say it but 318 stickers were never factory they were made later in the same style by repro people ...

What is this? I was thinking its a '69 air cleaner. Perhaps its 'restored' with a sticker?

I don't think that style air cleaner was ever used on the 340, it looks like the 67 Commando one but in black (was used on some 2 and 1 barrel cars)
