That off white harness connector was added sometime in early 70s for ease of assembly. Best advise is delete it completely. If you have an electric choke assist, there will be a small rectangle ceramic part with 2 connectors ( one is red ). Delete all of that crap too.
Alt. guage discharging all the time???
