i was going to ask this in my other post but thought that someone else may want to know the same things about the alternator as i do...now for the crazy ??? my car is the 70 duster it has the 3 wire alternator on it already but how can i tell the amp. of the alternator???i plan to go to a electric fan/water pump drive and i have the holley fuel pump on now as well.. i dont want to run into any electric problems when i install this set-up...i do know that most of the fans that im thinking of pull about 17.5/18 amps the water pum drive i have not found that yet still looking and the fuel pump i have to get on the web page and find..i understand i may have to up grade the wire from the alternator back but is this a most????now last i have a small denso off a acura leg. but has a total of 5 wire 4 in a plug and 1 for the hot does anybody have asetup like this that could share with me about the plug thats on it...if i dont have to use this (denso) i want i would like to keep the one on it now, but if i have to i have to....sorry so long but hay have to ask the best right.....

Lets assume yours is a square back and rated at 60 amps. That rating is equal to the sum of its parts. Bypass the regulater and full field the altenater, then go to a high rpm and you might see 90 + amps come out of that altenater. If the wiring is sufficient to carry that much current the altenater will overheat and die.
Altenater A is rated at 60 amp/hr at 2000 rpm and 205 degrees.
Altenater B is rated at 120 amp/hr at 2000 rpm and 205 degrees.
Altenater A would be working its butt off all the time and insufficient at idle.

hay redfish yes it is the square back one... now how do i fix this problem before i start another problem.......or how do i wire alternator b that has more amp... which everone is the best...... hay redfish if all is right on the web pages i should come out to about no more that 30 amps..i know its alot so help me out here please...thanks

I dont have the wiring info you need. Someone will I'm sure.
Good luck with it.

All Mopar alternators of that style came from the factory with a round tag bolted to one of the case through bolts with the part number and amperage rating. Yours may be missing by now.

As for wiring the other alternator you could go to the dealer and ask if you could see the wiring diagram. Most likely you won't need to use all those wires.

I'm interested in this as-well. I have just installed a electric fan in my car that has a 17.2 amp draw. Now, the alt is fine as long as the rpm is up. But at idle it suffers a lot when the fan is running and car in drive. So, I need to get amped up also.

Which fan are you useing galactic eyes the black magic 150/160. thats what im looking at also looked at the hhr fan the guys over on moparts say it use alot of amps so thats still in the air..i have one that came off of my acura but i really dont like it i dont think its big enough...

I could type out the tale of "foglamp fryed fords" and how their engineers fecked up as a good example but instead I'll keep it short and simple...
Keep those large gauge wires carrying high amps out of the cabin of your car.
Use relays with wiring and terminals rated for 30 amps. Place maxifuses in those circuits.
You can use the factory wiring, fuses, and switches to signal those relays.

thanks guys the 30 amsp is total not just 1 part...just to clearify..like i said thanks for your help...redfish so you say that i dont have to run larger wire long as i use the fuse and relays that i need thats good thanks alot...

No, I'm using this Summit fan. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-G4860/
I have a temp controller installed with it.
The Ford Taurus fans are a good alternative also. If you are at the salvage yard.
