Am I Missing a Grounding Strap For My Gas Tank Sending Unit?

-
Okaaaay . . . Looks like my post opened up a big can of worms here! Differing opinions on the necessity of a sending unit ground strap encourages meaningful discussion. I’ll install a ground strap and if my gas gauge operation improves, great, and if not, no harm no foul. Thanks everyone for chiming in! Dave
No can of worms here. If the factory put it there, it's a good idea. Purdy simple.

Here’s what I did
Small clamp and bare wire to tube/wire to frame
Gauge started working
Painted ground area real good since pic

My 73 Dart has a hole on the corner of the fuel tank that a ground strap connects to and runs to the frame rail. Same thing only different?

As long as there's a good connection between the lock ring and both tank and sender, that will work. The ground strap eliminates those questionable connections.
