Another 904 trans ID

-
4431557- A999 transmission. Date code 9163 translates to August 29 1986. From 318 with 4 barrel - lock up torque converter 1987 police vehicle.

Jumping/reviving this thread. I picked up what was listed as a 904 transmission. He said it was behind a Magnum or Cordoba. I knew it was a lock-up 998 or 999. Pretty sure it's a 1978 but the 10000 day code comes back as 1963.
Would like to know date and which is it? 998 or 999? What does L-STALL mean shown below? Pretty much know the answer but can I use my 72 904 valve body in this trans?
Thanks

Numbers are PK 4505162 0251 3905

You will need to use the lockup converter that hopefully came with it. Your other one won't work, and the valve body that is in it will need to be retained to lock up the converter. Looking at how someone had the kickdown lever tied back, I hope you don't go thru all the work to get it in and then find out it's toast! :(

I opened it up yesterday and from what I could see is that it had been rebuilt at some point and the band material looked good as well as all adjustments. What I didn't like is that when the converter is all the way back and you spin it with pressure on the pump, it makes a grinding noise. Thinking front sprag? Anyway......not going to use it except maybe the front and rear drums? For the additional clutches in my 904.

Edit.....Fluid was good and no debris in the pan.

A999 transmission with low stall converter.
Is that date from the 0251 number?
Date isn't making sense because the dude said he pulled it out of a Cordoba or Magnum. Unless it was a replacement transmission.
In that case not sure about which converter is in there. What would low stall be from the factory? Any idea?
Thanks

There were no PK 45----- numbers used on Magnum's or Cordoba's. Date code is from 0251.
PK 45----- numbers didn't exist until the very late 1980's.

I have 4 999's from 74-78 Cordoba's and Magnums, and they all have the PK numbers on them. Sometimes they didn't get the stamping very deep, like can't see it at all.

i have the part numbers from those 5 year 999'2. In 78 was the first year for lockup, so they came either way that year. And after that I don't know.

Yup they did come both ways in 78. My 78 fury (very early build in 9-77) had a non lockup 904 that still has a converter drain plug
