I have been thinking of going on the hunt for a 68-74 Javelin or AMX project. I realize it is a way smaller world that even Moparland, but I admit I am somewhat tired of overpriced Mopar projects, and I am not even talking of second gen Chargers or any Roadrunner! Even every Duster project I see these days is a POS and stupid $ for what it is. LOL
I enjoy learning about new things and I have little detail knowledge of building AMC. I bet there is precious little if any repo stuff for those. Probably a close knit group like Mopar was back in the 80s, 90s and thats good.

I do know that parts for those AMX are nearly non existent. 65'

If you think Duster mopar cars are high , A good buddy is a AMC guy. Any sports model AMC is big $$$ also. .

I have a 401 and some dog leg heads,,, was going to put in a hornet.

definitely a bit scarce.

If Im serious, Ill even contact used car places across the country by searching "muscle cars alabama" or something like that. then look at their ratings and make contact letting them know im in the hunt. They may make a couple thousand, but if you get what you want ...who cares.

1969 AMC/ AMX 390 GO PACK - cars & trucks - by owner - vehicle...

I look sometimes. This seems par for the course. I bet 14K takes it. If its all there, I feel that you can get one that is solid for 10K but without all the parts.

Not mine
$0.02
I am looking for a roller or driver project, but I bet you are right. Hard to buy a project cheap enough and build one for $10K if yo do all the work. I just hate coming back behind someone, I screw up stuff bad enough without any help!!

Every Tom, Dick and harry are into Mopars now for the $$$
Prices are up BUT I never find a buyer that is not 1000 mi away, wife will let him have another car has any $$$ or his dog just died!!
Maybe all these A body POS mopar projects around here are selling for those ask prices but I highly doubt. I can price a pretty darn nice car cheaper than anywhere and it still take months to sell. I just won't call on a project advertised at $400 when to me it is not even a decent parts car!
I love the hunt, I love building them, but I just about old and woreout enough to be at the end of my trail.

I'm not a guru of anything, but I know a little about AMCs and I like them a lot.

Last one I actually took a look at wa a 74 Duster on CL back in Aug 2019. the kid was asking 5 grand. It was a 318 car, with 904, it ran and drove, but it had Lf frame rail rot and the interior was gone, no carpet or door panels. I offered him 3800 he didnt bite. Kid was like 25 years old. All I was thinking was "man its going to cost putting an interior in it, then the frame repair...man...' no...not 5 grand..."

I have a 71 Javelin and love it. It was my wife’s first car is high school. It’s next up for restoration after my valiant. Some parts are hard to find depending on the year. But some parts aren’t that hard. There is definitely a repop market out there and several well known (in the AMC community) vendors. The 71-74 cars are a better value in my opinion. The older (pre 71) 2 seat AMX will likely cost you more. Finding a 360 (AMC) to swap in is very easy since there is a very large Jeep community that uses that engine a lot.

I'm certainly not a guru ..... but I do own a AMC !! '64 Rambler 660 Classic. Title even says NASH :D

I also think one of the most fun aspects of having a Javelin is watching people try to decide if it’s a Mustang or a Camaro.

I agree that the 71 up Javelin shares a lot of styling with that year Stang! I like em. I have always liked them but never seemed to find any. Found some now though. Little rough around the edges!! Only one (project) Javelin I remember seeing back in Mo. was a total wreck.
I like the idea of the AMC Hornet especially with a v8.
I can see a Dodge Colt making a fun hot rod, but I never see any worth having and even then they want $4000 for a turd.

Went to a cruise tonight, this is my buddies Ambassador.

I like the AMX and the ssts a lot, prices have gone crazy in the last couple of years for a nice one

You can get a plain 71-74 Javelin and make it an AMX clone.

Back in 2000 I bought this 70 Javelin "Mark Donahue" Edition, only 2500 built. 28k original miles, 360, auto,
go-package and the RARE factory "Sidewinder" exhaust side pipes....still had the snake, Sidewinder decal in the rear passenger window. I added the twin grip with 3.54 gears. Miss that car. Sold it in 2001 to buy the wife engagement ring and with the money left over I bought my 66 Cuda FS.
