I'm planning on putting a new cam in my 340 and was thinking about Comp's Magnum P/N 20-248-4. It's a solid with 248 @.050 and .525 lift. I have a .030 over 340 with stock stroke, W2 heads, Victor Jr intake, Holly HP 750 carb, and 11.77 compression. Also has a 727 w/ 4000 stall behind it and 4.86:1 gears. It's in a 2900# Duster that will be used for limited street and strip driving. I'm tuning the engine down a little bit since I don't get to the track that much anymore and the cam in it now is just a bit too hairy for the street. Any thoughts, experiences, suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I'm running that cam in a 10-1 Edelbrock RPM head and intake combo 360 W/a 750 Edel. carb, hooker super comps @ 1-3/4-2-1/2 exhaust in a 4spd-4.10 gear '73 Cuda.

Considering the no stall issue, it does take some extra attention to low speed driving state of tune with the 4spd. It could use more gear due to the manual trans. With that said, I like it. It is driveable in the street. Near explosive power and good high speed power up top in the RPM range.

I did like the dual plane dualquad set up a bit better though. Here my buddy Mike doing a quick set up after initial break in.

Mad torque. Less throttle pressure and more carb opening between the two carbs.

Over all, this cam needs some gears to over come the lack of low speed torque which is a given known considering the cam size and intended RPM range. Overall, not to bad. I can live with it easy enough.

I have not had it to the track yet. It does feel a little better than a Purple 292/.509 cam I had in there last. I believe this combo to be good for low 12's to high 11's. a weight reduction would really help as well as more gear. The car is a full interior. (AKA-full weight @ 3600+ or so lbs.) No A/C.

The only thing more to add is this single pattern cam could use a set of heads with good balance between the intake and exhaust flow. I do not know how the W2 heads flow stock or what condition your heads are in.

If anybody else out there reading this is considering this cam, stock iron heads should be well prep'd and bowl ported for use with this cam. Overall lift with lash will be on ethier side of and about .500.
(The result of lash plus pushrod angle loss.)

My next test and see combo will be a LD340 and 850 TQ.
Why? Just because.

I'd go with this Lunati VooDoo grind.

It's a left over NF grind from the UltraDyne days. I put a cam in a 340 that had this lobe for the exhaust, but a slightly smaller intake lobe and the owner of the car it went into couldn't believe how hard it pulled.

hipe and new and improved marketing aside the magnum grinds still are no BS cams and produce at the track if matched with the right parts and gears

i used a comp cam custom grind mm series that i really like 239/243 dur at .050 157/161 at.200 and .573/586 lift the cam was used in a build in mopar muscle oct 2002they dynoed 477 hp on a fairly stock bottom end .i havent had it to a track but it goes like stink and pulls hard to just about 7000rpm

The 294 s,solid Comp grind,is sweet. And I ,don't normally like Comp grinds. This cam ,works.
