I've been digging out some dirt up against my house to install a paver patio and came across this small hole going through the foundation. It looks to be either PVC of ABS. On the inside of the wall in question is the washer and dryer - as indicated by the exterior dryer vent. Does anyone know what that small hole going through the foundation is for??? I was thinking it may be for an overflow drain or something in the washer room, but I've been unable to locate anything and haven't had a chance to run a snake or hose or something through it.

The house was built in 2009 if that matters.

Thanks!

grab a coathanger and straighten it out
very slowly feed it in, then go inside and see if it is visible
that might shed some light on things

Maybe one time it could have been a place for the washer to drain out.......

I've seen some crazy stuff. You may never know, unless you find the guy who did it. Just turn it into whatever you want it to be. If it is PVC you can plug it tight.

yea, it's nothin..

A home built in 09 isn't going to have a hillbilly drain. Could be for any great number of things that a previous owner has done and then undone before selling...

If there is a water heater nearby, along with the washing machine, a floor drain is usually nearby in case either above fail.
Water tanks are often placed in a shallow pan with small drain pipe .

Water heater drain pan, now that you mention it that makes the most since for a house of this age.
I'd still like to see it come out above the mud seal with a 90.

Thanks for the ideas, guys. The water heater is on the opposite side of the house, as is the A/C drain. I couldn't locate any emergency floor drains in the area either.

FWIW- I am the original owner of the house.

I'll mess with it tonight and let you guys know what I find.

Its probably intended as the drain line for the pan that is supposed to go under the washing machine. Most new construction has those drain lines built in.

That's kinda what I was thinking, but I couldn't find a drain when I pulled out the washing machine last night. I wonder where the end is... Maybe it's covered by the flooring?

So it does not go into the house? Can you put a tape measure in it and find how far in it goes? Then you can look around inside and get an idea of approximately what it is near. Is the service panel in the laundry?

I plan on investigating this when I get home this evening.

Is the service panel in the laundry?
No, it's on the other side of the house.

If you are the original owner look on the print.
Builders don't normally give you extra stuff.
Foundation guys could have just made an error.
Ask the building department of there is a code calling for something like that.

Could be...or it might be behind the baseboard behind the washing machine.

Can you look inside the foundation under the laundry area?

Is the laundry in the house or in the garage?
Is the floor here the same as the house or is this a stem wall?

Pass through for future sprinkler controller?

All good ideas. Thank you! I don't believe I have detailed blue prints, but I'll look around. I also know the builder is still building down the road. I may swing by and ask the super if he knows.

Good idea as well. I guess I'll know when I measure the depth of the hole. Not sure what you mean by 'look inside the foundation.' I can't get under the laundry room.

Laundry room is in the interior of the house. Not sure what you mean by 'stem wall,' but the hole is below the top of the foundation slab, so unless there's an abrupt 90* upward, the pipe is going thru the foundation. I'll know more in a couple hours.

Thank for all the ideas guys.

So, turns out it goes nowhere. It's only about 4" long and goes straight into more concrete. All I can think is that who ever plumbed the washer drain dropped a short piece of pipe in the form and the concrete guy poured right over the top of it.
