I will soon be in the market for a daily driver under $10,000.00.
I did look into the new Dart because for a new car $15,000.00 is enticing. But after tires the price jumps up to about $25,000.00. No thanks!

It doesn't have to be "Mopar" just something reliable. My other car is a Jeep, which I love. I'm almost tempted on getting another... but this time I'm thinking MPG's.

I looked at a 2004 Impala SS with 84,000mi for $9000.00, that was pretty nice... but I start to question the reliability of a Supercharged engine. This car needs to last me awhile.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

wish you were closer. I have an 08 Subaru Impreza with 38,000 miles I would sell you for $9000

VW Jetta, 1.8 turbo...It will run forever. At 100k do a timing belt and water pump and keep going.

Early 80s to early 90s foxbody mustang or 90s celica
I got a 95 celica 4 cylinder 5 speed with 300,000 miles and still pulling strong and paid 1500 and everything works but wish it had a factory sunroof

what are the details? may know a guy interested.

Joe, I bought the car a few years ago when I had a 65 mile a day commute and my Ram was killing me on gas. Im over having a car payment. Trade in value is 11K, Private sale is 13K. I just want what I owe on it which is about $9000
I was wrong about the mileage, Its still under 35,000

clean looking. i'll pass the info on to him..

Adam R... That car would be perfect!!! Damn!! urgh!

A Mustang did cross my mind, since they have to be a dime a dozen!
however how good are they in snow?

You could almost buy a fairly decent optioned Cobalt with a 5-speed that is fairly new for that. Personally I'd buy a Town and Country 'cause you can do a little more with them.

used to daily drive my 90 mustang rag top. never had an issue with it in the snow. not sure we get the same amount of snow you get though.

I drove my 89 lx in the snow here in oregon. Bout 5 inches of snow. Did just fine. But my stangs would never stay running. Hence why theyre gone.

I'd think a V6 Mustang would be fine in the snow?!?!? Not so sure about a 330hp one though? :O)

I'll look into that Cobalt...

I think I would buy a Camry. I have a 98 that I drive to work everyday 50 miles round trip. Pull down 35 mpg, starts every time. it just turned over 321,000 miles.... should make 400,000 easy...

More of the japenese stuff go with the cobalt parts are cheap if they ever need anything. vws are broke dick pieces and suburus have lots of issues also. I work at a auto auction and have been a car guy for 40 years, also stay away from turbos, the impala is a good choice and are cheap but buy non turbo.

I'm driving an '03 Monte Carlo. 3.4, 180,000 miles, and still drives great. I've had practically no issues with it, and still gets close to 30 mpg. Impala would be very similar. Malibu's are pretty nice too. Also, has trac control, and does great in the snow.

I paid 10,000 exactly for my wifes 2008 dodge avenger SE with the 2.7 v6 with 43k miles about a year and half ago so I'm sure you could probably find a 08 avenger under 10k now she loves the car most people think its a charger if they don't pay attention, they are pretty comfortable power seats and they even have a little mini fridge thing in made in the dash to put 4 cans of soda in...good for when your when your traveling but not too good around town because it runs off the A/C... have not had a single problem with this car yet and we have put over 20k miles on it so far and I would recommend it to anyone

I have to admit that Impala SS is pulling of on my heart strings a bit. 70,000mi $9900.00.

Anyone have any experience with the dependability of superchargers?

Thanks!

(Sorry for the Chevy post :)

they last pretty good the problem that people run into is they dont change the super charger fluid. The 3800 is a strong motor, mom has a 3800 and step dad has 3800 super charged. Moms car is at 150,000 and runs good and step dads at 80,000. On another note if your looking for gas milage I have a 04 cavalier ls sport with 76,000 with no problems for $4200

Michigan huh? That's a thought!

I'm going to be looking into my financial situation tomorrow.

I was also looking into Acuras. I kind of like those. Honever they seem about $3000.00 over the price of "normal" cars.

I have a 2005 Impala SS that I just turned 102 k on it. It gets 24 - 25.5 MPG on the hoghway and still kicks it around town. Don't worry about the supercharged engine, I have a 99 Grand Prix that has the same engine with 192 k on it. That's why I bought the Impala SS. It only had 50 k on it when I first got it. I love to drive it.

what I don't like about it:

If any "light bulbs" on the dash go out the dealer rapes you. The two bulbs for the dual temp control burnt out and they told me that they had to put in a whole new control for the heaters as they are LED's not bulbs.

Same with the radio. I have a few bulbs out on the preset station buttons and they want to sell me a new radio. You can't change the radio if you need to reset the onboard diagonostics or reprogram new key fobs. You can do that through the stock radio, so I just live with the burnt out "bulbs".

Lucky for the heater control, the previous owner had an extended warranty that I was able to transfer into my name for $50. That covered most of the temperature control head ($350.00). It expired before the radio bulbs burnt out.

I called Gm and told them about my disappointment that instead of a $2 or $3 bulb, I had to buy whole new controls when the lights burnt out. I told them that I would not buy another newer of their product if they are made that way. I as a customer will not put up with expensive repair bills. They claim it is new "technology". I told them that they should then stick to old technology until they can get the cost down on maintaining the new technology...

The other alternative is to get replacement parts from a junk yard.

Overall, I like the Impala and am happy with the powertrain. I would recommend it to others. Don't forget to change the oil in the supercharger periodically. I've found that some dealers are clueless about that....

Yes. I have a 99 Grand Prix GTP with the 3800 supercharged and 192,000 miles. Any questions?

Don't forget to change the oil in the superchargers periodically (not as often as the motor oil). Some dealers have no clue about that.

If you are going to buy an Impala 10 grand is way to much for an 04 , you should be able to get into an 08 09 for that much money and they are beautiful on gas 40 plus miles a gallon , lots of room and drive nice , i would stay away from that 3.8 s charged .
