i recently had an oil leak after changing my intake( the one i had machined to fit) i thought it was valve cover gasket so i changed them. seemed like i still had the leak so I pulled the valve cover and checked the intake bolts and plus the seal each end of the intake and the line for the pressure gauge. well found oil puddled in the half moon hole/area( not sure what to call it) in the center of the head. I have seen numerous threads about folks dropping stuff in there and the census is dont worry it dont go anywhere. so im puzzled on how any oil is in there

so maybe the valve cover leaked and filled that area and i just need to get the oil out ?? i have been rolling up paper towel and stuff it down in there to soak up the oil and there seems to be a lot of it in there.

or could it be something with the gaskets/s(its only on one side)

thanks in advance don

Yeah, as you expected it's just collected there after your oil leak.

Mop it up. If it returns you've likely got a valve cover leak.

My bet is it leaked out of the valve cover then down into the heat cross over pocket. Only other way would be a leak past the intake gasket ,but I doubt that is the source of your leak.

the first time i found the leak it was allover the top of my new air gap intake so I assume it filled that pocket and then ran down to the intake. some is following the intake towards the back of the motor and running down the head onto the headers

That would be a perfect candidate for my carpet cleaner turned oil vacuum.
Just and old carpet cleaner that I reduced the hose size down to 1/2 so then I can spray or soak spots with soaps or light solvents like WD40 and vacuum them up without making a mess everywhere else. :D

If your valve cover gaskets are good and they are not propped up on the runners of the intake, My guess would be the oil climbing up the center mounting bolts, not kidding. That is a blind hole/void that only helps dissapate the heat from the exhaust crossover. trick is to put a dab of RTV under the bolt head prior to torquing it down.

Check the valve covers for clearance near where he intake ports are... You may have to grind some scallops in the valve covers for clearance...

that was my next spot to look because I already replaced the gaskets. How are you Karl

this

did you use any type of sealant on the intake bolts ?

doing good getting ready to head to indy for 9 days and hoping to meet a member or two while im there

sure enough valve cover was hitting the intake near the runners so i ground them down some and bingo oil leak is gone.

Thanks everybody

Don't you just love it when you find the cause and solve a problem? Glad to hear you found it.

Bingo, Cast covers? You could also double up on the corks, glue them together. Nice not having any leaks, glad you got it.
