hi Y'all

anybody on the forum that lives in or close to abilene texas? maybe wanting to hang out, work on the cars, go junkyarding for parts, trade parts etc? i am a good welder / fabricator. only one i got to talk to about this stuff is my wife. now dont get me wrong she loves the old cars, just doesnt know anything about them, really doesnt want to. so as a result i am starved for mopar camaraderie. i get my fix of car talk with others on this site which is great, but fell isolated out here in west texas

send me a PM and i will contact you.

thanks
matt

thanks for the support, i have y'all for my mopar fix. its like a drug. i got a smart phone, and i cant wait until breaktime at work to check fabo out. all you guys and gals on here are great.

i have been through Abilene before ...interesting place..... years ago i sold a 69 dart on ebay and the bidder was in houston. So i got to talkin to the bidder on the phone and told him that i know ppl Houston and in Kileen, Tx .....so he made the suggestion that he would pay me to deliver the car, and then i can see the ppl i know.

So me and my cousin came down through the panhandle through Oklahoma out of the southeast Colorado and the truck started giving us problems in Childress .......well it was an intermitten cut out problem, so bcoz it was intermitten we decided to push it to Kileen.......didnt get that far and the truck dies in Abileen....so we stayed the night and i dont know what the problem was but my cousin got the truck going again .....so total i spent one night and almost a whole day Abilene.......it is nice there i did a lot of walking around....got some strange looks bcoz everyone can tell im a foreigner but most ppl smiled and were friendly.

so after that we finally made it to Kileen and picked up a few ppl i know and finished on to Houston ....delivered the car and i got to go to the beach on Galvaston and went to the space center place. Then we had a Looooooong drive back to Colorado. LOL

dont help you much ...but brought back a memory for me. :colors:

Sounds like i fun and cool trip rani. I originally am from northern new jersey right near new york city. Lived there the first 25 years of my life, get job with an airline, and move to abilene texas. I must say people said i talked funny, but were nice and helpful. Im very conservative im my views always have been, so it helped me fit in easier. I love my guns, god, and want a smaller less intrusive government . Think the current crop of politicians mostly suck, ditto for the horses A$$ running the whitehouse. He is a usurper, a fake, and a socialist pig. im off my soapbox now. LOL i have been here 18 years now, when i go home to visit family they now say i talk funny lol.

Anyway i do fit here, better than the liberal states in the north east. This is home to me, i would never go back except to visit family once in a while. I got spoiled on the rustfree sheetmetal that we have out here compared to the north east where everything rusts out badly. Its funny i bought a 94 chevy silverado pickup brand new in new jersey, had it rust proofed, and undercoated before i picked it up from the dealer. I still own it down here, not a spot of body rust on it. Its almost 20 years old. My brothers friend bought the same make and model truck around the same time i did, and junked it several ago truck cab and bed were falling apart with rust.

My 67 bcuda had typical rust in the lower back of the rear quarters very minor,.and nothing around the wheel wells, or rocker panels. The spare tire well had typical rust, but not bad for a 45 year old car, solid doors and front fenders, it had good floors needing only 2 small patches but somebody previous to me hacked a hole for a floor shift and cut thru the frame crossmember the tranny mounts to. I decided to replace the whole floor, and whole crossmember with ones from a donor 74 dart and start fresh rather than patch everything . It was lots of work, but now its a restorable car. Check out my pix of the floor pan and crossmember swap on FABO.

Hope all is well with you out in colorado

Your friend in abilene
Matt

dang its been so long since i posted this thread. i thought it was long gone. met up with TXstang84 not too long ago. he bought a nice rust free trunklid i had from my 74 dart parts car for his 72 scamp. i got his old rusty one sitting on a scrap metal pile that i will soon take to pine street salvage for scrap weight.

I am in Houston, but that's a ways from there... My 71 Dart still needs a hood, and I may end up driving somewhere to get it.
If you ever come to Houston....

I lived in Texas back in the early 80's. Matagorda county, town of Bay City, bout an hour from Houston. Down there people talk funny! Went to rent a moving truck at the local "y'all haul" lol!
