Anyone else noticing higher prices at Summit lately

Yeah I still love the catalogs too. We still have them going out at least four times a year and we’ve added mini-catalogs that are more focused on tools or your specific vehicles. One thing we did mid last year was let people know how many of something we have left on the shelf down to the single digit. The inventory levels from the vendors if we need to dropship is pretty accurate so the “live”technology has definitely helped. I’m waiting on stuff myself but luckily I’ve been able to substitute for other brands a lot. That’s another thing that’s fairly new is a notification showing a comparable part available from another brand helps us make a decision on whether that’s a way to go.

Thanks for coming on for Abodiesonly and explaining what you guys are up against. When placing an order is there anyway of telling which state our order will be coming from? Example I’m in Pa and if I order early enough I usually get it the next day. But if a couple of items aren’t in stock in Ohio my order is kicked to 3-5 days from Texas usually. A lot of times if I knew this I could have easily substituted another part was was in stock locally. The counter guys are great at letting us know this so I probably answered my own question.

I might be able to help with this a bit. Near the top of the search results, there is a place to set retail pickup location. This will set an estimated ship date to that location. When you go to do checkout, it will show you which site the parts are coming from. We can't show you the allocation during the parts selection phase *yet*, but we're always improving site functionality to help in situations like yours. Please let me know if this is at all helpful. I attached a few pics.

Thank you very much

Thank You, Brian, for having the stones to join us and give us your perspective of all the problems we've had in the past year. I hope you're not thin skinned, because a lot of members will be on your ***. I thank you for all the years of service I've had from Summit, and I'm not just blowing smoke up your skirt.

I’ll second this.

Brian, being a Canadian, suppliers up here similar to Summit are scarce. I was glad to see "free shipping" for Canucks on $299US($400 Cdn), BUT the "free" shipping only appears to be thru FedEx? FedEx, UPS, any couriers for that matter crossing the border give it to us Canucks dry and hard. Is it possible to have the same incentive thru USPS?
Thanks
Steve
Hello, I am an associate in the R&D section of Summit Racing. I can clarify that we don't outsource our associates. I can confirm we have four very large brick and mortar locations full of enthusiasts who have dedicated their careers to serving racers.

In addition to R&D, much of my job entails tutorials, how-to's and new product announcements. I work with many forums and their members to problem-solve....and here I am! :)

2020 was pretty brutal on all of us. We at Summit have always prided ourselves on carrying the most inventory and continue to do so. Our many suppliers have been working to come back from component shortages needed to make their products. They are bringing their workforces back to the factory floors as quickly as their state legislatures will let them. Summit has placed many large orders with these folks which not only serves our customers - it also serves as a life-line to these factories.

Material costs have gone up, no surprise there. We absorbed a lot of the tariffs have passed on to us over the last few years and will continue to do so.

As for pricing, we adhere to the manufacturer's MAP pricing which they've deemed the minimum required to service the sale. We continue with free freight, price matching and sales whenever they are possible. It's true our advertised prices may not be the lowest every time - but in the vast majority of cases they are. We appreciate our customers who give us the opportunity to price match. We will make it worth their while with the best service after the sale and our handshake guarantee return policy.

At any rate, we appreciate your feedback and support. I'll continue to monitor this thread and I'll do my best to get you answers and get you in touch with the appropriate folks within our company to solve problems.

Thanks, Brian Nutter

With Canadian shipping I know the folks that work on these types of policy things and I’ll ask them to review. It sounds like even if it were a bit more expensive, that it would be preferable?

Thanks for the quick reply Brian. For me it's not about getting best price, it's not knowing how much more $$ it will cost when we buy. You've probably heard it 1000 times, but exchange and shipping kills the deal every time.
Not sure how shipping free with FedEx vs free with USPS affects your bottom line.
Thanks for the reply!
Cheers
Steve

I am a sales rep that handles fairly large amounts of steel. Prices have increased every month for nearly 10 months straight. Has steel pricing effected companies like yours?

Yes, our vendors are constantly having to adjust price and we work with them. It’s fairly easy to determine a reasonable increase as we manufacture a large number of parts ourselves with local machine shops etc.

I agree, kimmer. All this while I'm building a 408 for my '70 Singer 340. I turn 63 next month, though, so I'm building it anyways. I've waited too long and worked too hard to wait much more.

If you don't mind, I have questions that only people with more experience than myself can help answer. Can I PM you with questions? I won't piss you off with stupid stuff, just technical things like your opinion of my cam selection. Rumblefish is also helping me. I never saw a U Haul behind a hearse, so I'm building this engine right. Thanks, Paul.

Dam, it seems like some stuff is way up. Kim

Seems like everything is up a bunch to me , guess I remember what stuff was when I first started my obsession with h.p. , on my 5th hotrod .
MANY TIMES i SWITCHED BACK AND FORTH TO GET THE BEST PRICES , beating jegs and summit both !

I have bought a lot of stuff over the years at Summit, but had it sent to the border in Montana and then went across and picked it up myself, paid the duties and taxes coming back to Canada, without issue.
Now, obviously, we can't cross over to the U.S.A. to do the same thing right now, so I'm interested in trying the ''free shipping to Canada with orders over $299 USD'' offer.
Has anyone tried it lately?
And what were the ACTUAL costs landed on your door step?
I know that there would be additional brokerage fees added unless it was USPS..........

I just put an order through with Summit yesterday to the tune of about 1500 US dollars. I was able to get the free to Canada shipping, and pay the import and duty fees directly with Summit. Total cost of the fees was 142 US dollars.

Thank you, that is the answer I was hoping for.
Did they say anything about the time it would take to ship it to you from there?

Man I don’t envy you guys one bit.

Considering $1500 US "value" the $142 US ain't too "bad". But yeah so now $1642= too fn much!
I wonder if say you ordered $500 would it have flown under the radar?
How did they ship? USPS>Canada Post?
