I have a 73 duster with a 3" diameter rust hole in the rear passenger subframe, a few small holes in the other sub frames as well. All subframes have surface rust on 100% of the frame. Are SafeTCaps a true fix for something like this? If they are, for the price I bought my car, it will be cheaper to fix the frame with these, than to buy a rust free duster. I'm not looking to make a historically accurate duster, just a cool looking fun ride. I don't mind having something like SafeTCaps on the frame, so long as they are safe.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, here they are:

I have them on my 66 Barracuda, well worth the money. Very strong and much thicker metal than factory frame section. You can see pics of my install in my restoration thread "The darwin project".
Sounds like a fun project, good luck. Maybe start your own restoration thread so we can see your progress.

No, the proper way is to remove the rusted metal and replace it.

Will they work??.....Sure.
I concur, the rusted frame section should be removed while retaining as much of the good metal as possible. The SafeTCap will then, in fact, be the same as replacing the rusted frame section.

Darwin, good to hear. They sound great. Have you had any trouble with them rusting?

Here's my restoration thread: http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?t=108577
Can't answer that as my car has yet to see daylight since I started the restoration. I doubt they would be any more likely rust than any other part of the car. I did weld mine all the way around, gave them a coat of POR15, and undercoated the entire under side of the car.
