Not sure what these are I got them used. With headers at WOT, they’re kind of thwappy. Not sure if that’s just the headers or the muffler or the combination. I don’t have much experience with full length tube headers and mufflers.

All comments welcome lol

They look like regular glasspack mufflers, offered by Cherry Bomb and others, in various lengths and pipe diameters.

I don't know what you mean by "thwappy", but yeah they're pretty raspy with not much muffling going on.

Headers generally do not create noise.
Under hood noise is about it.
It’s the muffling device that creates the sound.

Resonators, come in different diameters and different lengths, starting with 12" long.

Have used these styles many times over the years. Usually in the 2".

Anyone running full length headers? What are ya using behind them?

Happy New Years to everyone!

Probably more than half the people on this site are running or have run full length headers. Asking what to run will only get you twenty pages of people arguing about Magnaflows/Flowmasters/Dynaflows/Borlas...
You need to specify what kind of sound you want- quiet and smooth, a bit of a rumble, crackling like a Top Fueler, etc.
Selection will also depend on the rest of your exhaust- tubing size first; then full length, dumping in front of the rear wheels, underbody turndowns, etc.
And then what kind of a budget you're dealing with.
Stating what you want to end up with right at the beginning will save everybody a lot of needless typing.

What do you guys use/recommend with long tube headers?
There is always a possibility of getting a drone inside the cabin. It doesn’t always happen.

For a quieter exhaust, Dynomax turbo mufflers. Then Summit turbo mufflers for a bit more aggressive sound.
These two mufflers maintain the pipe diameter inside the muffler for maximum power return for your money.

Straight through mufflers similar to glass packs without that “Whap” sound (or seriously reduced) would be Hooker or Dynomax Max flow or maximum flow.

For a chambered muffler, Hooker Aerochamber. Very muscular sounding.

Tune into “Engine Masters” where Dave Freiburger has a cheap muffler shootout.

Glass packs or resonators before or after the muffler knock down a few decibels of sound pressure and take the edge off of the note. Remember, the longer the silencer, muffler or glass pack, the more sound deadening (quieter) it will be.

If you get a drone inside the car, a Helmhertz pipe can be added on. This is a pipe welded onto the exhaust pipe at a 90* angle of a predetermined length. Check YouTube videos for more information.

As seen above, glass packs before the muffler offer good sound control inside the car. The heavy gauge steel they are made of is very good at containing the exhaust note. They will also do well after the muffler.

I am a manifolds guy, so not much help here.

Long tube headers if you are chasing the drone back into the car, I have put the resonators in front of turbo mufflers to help quiet it down.

Long tube headers or not, the sound issue is ‘t due to headers. It’s the sound coming down the pipe, what escapes the muffler casing and what bounces back out of the muffler back up towards the engine.

So yes, you are of help!

Nice pictures.

I've always liked the straight through mufflers. Better flow and less drone than the chambered mufflers, especially ones like Flowmaster.
I do know that crossover pipes such as X-pipe or H-pipes help reduce quite a bit of drone as well.

I have been really looking into Cherry Bomb's Vortex mufflers.
In fact I got two of their 3 inch mufflers in my garage that I've had for almost 7 years. I got them for dirt cheap from a local muffler shop that was going out of business.
Got the pair for around $45.

I have walker 17188 mufflers with long tube headers on a 318 in a d100. Good compromise on noise level to sound. I swapped out from spintecs that were way too loud.
