Anyone seen the new car craft Demon Project car?

LS engines are no cheaper to build and offer no distinct advantages over the latemodel Hemi.

Disagree! They are cheaper to build and the aftermarket support is significantly larger for the LS than it is for the Hemi. In addition, aftermarket support for the Hemi probably won't go too much further because a lot of the Mopar guys are not interested in paying the costs associated with the support. Costs are high at first and start to come down when the R & D is recovered I know this for fact because I'm trying to get some things for the Hemi that are available for everything but the Hemi and vendors are not willing to do it because the development costs are too high compared to quantities they will sell at the prices needed to recoup their costs. Supply and demand is king and we in the Mopar world have a reputation for demanding until the price tag is shown.

Im not a fan of GM,but you are correct on the aftermarket. And You are correct on the reputation.

Been done already.

So has CC's concept here. What? They think they're being original? No, what they're being, to me, is not using any brain power...

Lord forbid if they should take the time to learn anything new here. They'll stick with what they know and that's Bowties. This way they don't have to stretch those tiny little minds and learn about Mopars. They won't really be showing off any build skills, either, as I guarantee their advertising vendors will be pretty much making everything they need to bolt right in.

Sorry, JR, I'll disagree that this is hot rodding. You have your opinion on the definition, I have mine. I see your Chevy with the slant in it as hot rodding. You're showing some serious build skills on it, making parts that don't fit, well, fit and doing the mods necessary, sometimes creating those parts as you go. That's hot rodding. Almost no aftermarket support, just a man, his tools, and an idea how to make tab A fit into slot B. That's the way the Old Man did it back in the '40s and '50s when he'd make a Caddy engine with a Packard trans and Pontiac rear work in a light weight Ford body.

A true hot rodder uses his brain and isn't afraid to take on what he doesn't know, 'cause he's willing to learn in the process. This build is just a case of them not wanting to do either of those things.

I'm not surprised with what they are doing, as they refer to themselves as "Chevy Craft" or "Camaro Craft". I started getting it when they started building the Rambler and have just kept up my subscription, but after the last 2 issues basically nothing but LS articles and the destruction of the Demon, my subscription will run out and not be renewed. Won't make a difference to them, but its the same reason I quit getting Hot Rod years ago. One can only read so many Camaro and SBC builds before you go nuts>

here's a chopped Dart that has a removable Carson top
Ok, that one has an argument for being a hot rod. It's a "custom" if you want to be technical, but you've got a point. Its been modified enough to change genre's.

I'd still call the chopped '68 Polara a muscle car. But that's just my opinion.

What do you think it is called when a guy puts a 71 frontend on a 73? HOT RODDING!

That's an easy one JR! That's called a clone, or a tribute car. I'm putting a '71 front end on my '72 Challenger, and I wouldn't call that hot rodding for a second. It's a bolt on operation with factory parts, to make it look like a factory
car. It just makes your '73 muscle car look like a '71 muscle car.

As far as the Car Craft project goes, it's not really even a helpful article. No Mopar guy with a Demon wants an LS1 in it, no Chevy guy is going to buy a Demon, and no non-affiliated car guy (if there is such a thing) with half a brain would do it because at the end of it the LS1 will be worth more if it's not in the Demon, and the Demon will be worth more without the LS1. Its like throwing away time and money.

Go to there website and tell them how to do it right.
I went there yesterday and told them. Even threated them with pulling
my subsription.
If we get enought people we should be able to sway them.
Here's the website. www.carcraft.com.

Hot rodding is hot rodding no matter if it is a 29 A, 70 Dart, or a civic. Anytime you modify your car to perform or look better it is still hot rodding!

Don't even get me started on the term "tribute car" :angry7:

I guess the only good thing I can say about this is that they have not crushed the Mopar or ran it off a cliff..........yet.

Another one of "Chevy Craft" magazine's famous stunts.
I never buy that rag let alone look at it anymore on the shelf.

I'm going to comment on their website: "Thank you for saving a Mopar engine, they are like gold now days so please beat the crap out of that piece of junk, dime a dozen chevy motor in that awesome Mopar.
Just don't run the Mopar off of a cliff when you are finished like the rest of the idiots do when they get their hands on a "real" muscle car".

They are probably gonna start adding footnotes that say "*except for Mopar fans. Quit submitting your opinions, this is CarCraft. Our thing is chevies"

Who really cars what Car Craft or anyone else does with THEIR money or THEIR car. . . The thing I dislike the most about the car hobby is how much hatred there is if you decide to do something "different" . . . Its the same reason why car shows are no longer fun to me. Too many folks out there bad mouthing other folks for doing something different with their car, just because its not what you would do.

Why does everyone care so much with how others spend their money or build their cars???? Its just useless complaining. Maybe its time the world lightens up a bit and stops drawing a line in the sand in which depending on which side you stand you are right or wrong.

Lets face it is anyone really a "car guy or girl" if they can't appreciate different makes, models, and modifications other than stock?

Well, after racing my entire adult life I guess I am a little more open minded than most. I have broken a lot of parts over the years, and if there is a way to make my car better and stronger by using another brand's parts then I am going to do it. The LS1 is a fantastic engine and I own one of those too. I wouldn't put it in my Duster now, but if it was all I had I would. "Brand Loyalty" goes right out the window when you start talking race cars because they end up mostly aftermarket anyway!

Great post!

Yeah but it's just fun giving them exactly what they want.:snakeman:

It's causing a rukus already by the comments here as stated above, it's a marketing strategy.

:angry7:point is well made about lack of developement for Mopar motors, sadly. Tragically, even most of the factorie's "crate " engines were pieces of junk from the time they were sold. It takes time and experienced knowledge to fix someone else"s screw-up. This probably won't make my opinion the most popular one on here, but do you guys think the factory or ANY of the big builders, such as Ray Barton or someone of his caliber would contribute to something like this with parts,or say,a whole engine?? For that matter, which one of us die-hards would give up something outta his stash?? Any takers?? One way to beat this kinda crap is for someone to step up to the plate and make a public offer. Then, if they continue, they're just being the Chevy guys we all know them to be. Don't get me wrong, I bleed Mopar blue. The fag Green Hornet movie makes me wanna puke, for a BBC in an Imperial! Still, you have idiots that are so bored or stupid that this is the best they can come up with.I don't like brand to brand swaps UNLESS it's a Mopar motor. Even then, it's kinda strange. And most of us are the same way. It makes our pulses race to see a big wedge or Hemi stuck where it doesn't belong, even in something like a VW bug,or, say, a Yugo. How about a Mitsubishi, like, maybe a Plymouh Arrow?? Whoops, that's been done already, some guy named Glidden or something. HAha!! Bottom line is, I guess, unless we pressure people like our own factory or others, such as Edelbrock into makin stuff for us, we're gonna be back-burner and STAY THERE. So who's fault is this?? As long as we keep re-using old stuff one of these days that's all we're gonna have.I don't even see re-pop makers being asked to re- design stuff like inner fenders so we can do easier 3-g hemi or big block swaps. We also need to come up with better ideas how to fix our own stuff. It's ridiculous how many of us are willin to stuff a 700R-4 under our cars with a Kiesler bell-housing. It's STILL a GM tranny!! But a lot of us do it with nary a second thought!! How bout it?? Any of you seen a good big to small block adapter for using our own tranny, or the electrics needed to make the damn thing work when you DO get it stuffed in there?? Not this little black duck! Most of the time though, what other option do you have, especially with a big-block?? Is it hot -rodding or desperation. That's for each to decide. Best thing we can do, I guess is not patronize these fools by buying their mag.

Understood. He was troll baiting me and I guess I took the bait. In all fairness though, I was almost as much on topic as he was...just a bit funnier :) No harm intended, it's just my sense of humor I guess.

And...I still like Fords, but would never put one in a Mopar.
