I meant a single row roller type chain. For the purposes of this discussion, the 'silent' chain is referred to most commonly as a link type.
Tensioners are not useless or bad, but the 'tightness' they bring is somewhat misleading....the chain is tensioned but only on the trailing side. The loaded side is pretty much the same whether you have a tensioner or not.
My problem with link chains is not in their construction or design but the fact that I don't see a lot of 'quality' chains on the market. I think it's easier by far to find a high quality roller.
