AR-15s

I like, own and shoot Franklin Armory and JP Rifles. But there are many others that are good.

chambered in .223 Wilde.

I have always stayed away from AR 15s because of the non folding stock.

There are folding stock adapters for AR's available. The good ones aren't cheap, and you can't fire with the stock folded but it does solve the transport/size issue.

I can fire both of my assault weapons with the stock folded or extended!! Don't know about AR15??

Sig makes a decent upper that gets rid of the buffer tube. Based on a Daewoo/AR180 style system. Brownells sells an AR180 upper conversion too which allows you do to away with the buffer tube as well.
The way I see it: it's a carbine because I want the stock. Folding is for transit, not for firing Mogadishu style with it folded. Every vehicle borne operator deploys from their vehicle with the stock set where they run it, and if they can run a 16" carbine from the cab of a hilux, then smaller doesn't seem like a huge requirement.
That said, I still built me a little CETME LC just because the collapsing stock on those is so damn cool!

Do you have to register an 80% receiver when you finish machining it?

Technically no, but the BATFE is working on new rules that would make 80% receivers 'firearms'. They can change the interpretation at any point in time, and the only way to fight it is to first get charged... it's not going to be pretty.

I want to build a AR47 pistol, using an 80% AR lower receiver and a xxxx river upper in 7.62x39.
Can I use an arm brace?

Get the 80%’ers while you can. I have bought a couple lowers and uppers from PSA. My .308 is sub MOA. Upper came from Davidson Defense. I’d buy from them again. Not impressed with Pro2ATactical.

I have a feeling braces are going to be criminalized soon. So for now, yes. Near future? Maybe, but not yet. Fingers crossed, but the courts upheld the bump stock ban, so my hopes are not high.

I don't want this thread to goto N&P. But if it has to so be it. Just stating facts, the latest crime was yesterday, 6 armed punks in 2 cars pull up outside a lady's house, take baseball bats to her car and steal her catalytic converter. WTF. All I can say is if you hate your kids, move to Albququerque.

my wife had an interview for a job there a month ago and was pretty bummed that she didn't get it; sounds like we dodged a bullet.

The only time I picked up a gun to defend myself, someone was trying to get into my neighbors apartment in the middle of the night. Hot summer night in the Northeast and all my windows were open. I had a heavy 1911 and all I did was pull the slide and let it slam shut in the dark. they left.....

be safe y'all

Where do you live?
I thoight here in Ca was bad.. man...

I didn’t look that close, but isn’t the PSA built to mil-spec? I think it is.

Go out and put all the junk ammo you can find through it and see what it won’t eat. I think it will shoot anything you can load into it.

I don’t shoot steel cased ammo because I reload and you can’t reload that crap. Just know that if you reload and don’t buy a bunch of it just to try.

Contrary to the US Army, the AR platform will run dirty. It just won’t run dry. The lube can be running off of it and it will function normally. Even crusty dirty. If it gets dry you’ll have issues.

I’ve proven this out many times going to the range with guys who think 5 drops of oil will lube an AR. Keep it wet and it’s happy.

In one of the courses I was in, If anyone had a lock up and the gun was dry. The instructor would make that guy lube the **** out of it with KY jelly.

Keep it wet fellas. No one wants it dry.

And on the 223-556 i would NEVER own an AR that wasnt chambered for 556. That is just a serious problem waiting for a day to happen.

You know it WILL be a problem, not IF, but WHEN?
Thats super not cool.

Oh yeah, Take an AR course. I thought "that is stupid,Im a bad ***" but once you take a good training course you will be sold on them.

If you stay clear of Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Rio Rancho, NM is pretty nice. Here's a funny thing. I looked on all the local news sites for that article and video I saw on the morning news. G-O-N-E as in non-existent. That right there should tell you plenty about Albuquerque.

One other thing I just thought of.

We can debate on the use of 223-556 for defence in and around the home. That is not this post.

You can buy an "upper" for your new AR lower that is chambered in .410 shotgun.

Now you can unleash 20 rounds of buck shot with or with out a choke and your neighbors wont be dead.

If you plan on unleashing that 223 or 556 for defense in the city Id buy hollow point ammo just to limit penetration.

Good point. I'd never shoot at anyone unless they broke into my residence, and I have better weapon choices for that work. One reason I got the M855 ammo is because if you drive to my house for shenanigans, you will cede your vehicle(s) and be walking. :)

I’ve loaded some 55 GR pointed soft points. Fly good and dang near flipped a woodchuck inside out with one last summer.

Home defense. 12 gauge pump with buckshot or #4 Turkey loads.

The flexibility of the AR platform is fun. If this is your first one, Im sorry.

Drugs are much cheaper.
