I have some leftover 318 gasket sets on the shelf. Can I use the head gaskets for the 318 gasket set on the 340 that I am beginning to rebuild? (photo is 340 block) Thank you.

While they can be interchanged, not all "blue" Fel-Pro gaskets are the same. The 1007 is .039" thick and has a "fire ring" built in. It's their best head gasket, especially for higher performance & higher compression applications. They have other part numbers that vary in thickness & probably bore sizes. It depends how particular you are about the compression you're shooting for.

A bigger gasket bore than needed contributes (very slightly) to less compression & efficiency also.

Did you mean 1008 not 1007?

They are great gaskets BUt If you have the budget
Cometic are BETTER.
Especially if you are using Aluminum heads with an Iron block!

We have used 1008s on 318/360/340.
The diameter is a bit big for a 318 and will drop compression slightly
a smaller diameter.

I bought some marine fel pro head gaskets I intend to try on my next build

The cheap blue ones are #8553 Also FYI, they are the ones supplied in the FelPro whole engine gasket kits and will work on most street cars unless not N/A or have High compression
The HP for high compression are #1008

There should be a part number stamped on the gasket or listed if you have the set box.

Yea, I lost track of the #'s. Been selling out & haven't kept up.
