are Magnum head gaskets side-specific?

I saw that my head gaskets covered a 3/8" water jacket hole in front of #2 cylinder. It was the only hole covered though. I was wondering whether I had the head gaskets on the wrong side? They definitely weren't upside down, because there was no hole for the water jacket in the rear of that head gasket. The only explanations could be that the water jacket was supposed to be covered, or I had the gasket on the wrong side of the block. Thanks!

I read in a book "building big inch Mopar small blocks" it is supposed to be restricted to force more water back through the head to cool the rear cylinders better.
