If the base were thinner, which would make the throat, that goes into the snap cap, longer, then the adapter could be mounted inside the trunk and the cap would not sit so proud of the fender.

I know what I mean, not sure I explained myself correctly

I get what you are trying to convey I think Pawned.
However, that wouldn't work so well as that is the point of the adapter. *To space it off the quarter panel ever so little so the cap doesn't touch the sheet metal.

If you look at the cap base closely, it has a bit of curve to it, that will not sit well on our flat quarter panels.
Also, if mounted between the quarter panel and the filler tube (inside the trunk), you would need to shove the filler tube farther into the tank and most may not like to mess with the filler neck and disturb the seal at all.

I appreciate the thought and suggestion though! Make sure you post pictures of it installed if you dont mind! :)

Just a thought, no offense intended.
I had thought about modifying my adapter, but I was not willing to take a chance of ruining it.
My mama only raised one idiot and it was not me

Would this improve a flip top on a 68 /69 barracuda? If there is already a post on this question, please refer me to that post. I read the first 6 or 7 pages then skipped to the last page. Thank you

I came up with a thought. (of course I am paranoid)
I wonder if someone likes the flip cap so much that they may want to steal it off the car. So I went to the hardware store and bought one way screws to mount the cap with. fit perfectly work great.
Plus it you want it removed easily you can go into the trunk and grab the screw and back it out from there

If I ever get the 38 Ford Standard hemisedan, maybe I'll get to the Valiant. In saying all that, what my intentions are is to recess the adaptor and gas cap show here, in about 1/2", to make it conform a bit better, rather than looking like the cap is just stuck on. Just my opinion, of course as this flip cap looks killer on any A Body.
 
I would like one. I have a 76 Duster. Also, do you know which flip cap is best/preferable or which one I should use, and where I can get one easiest? Sorry to hit you with all the questions at once, but I have been thinking of doing this for a long time and found this thread through dumb luck. Read through all 48 pages...LOL! Thanks for your time.
