At wits end......

Original voltage regulator but charges
alternator fine?

While I don't think this is your issue, but is the Voltage regulator one for electronic ignition?

They are different.

The one for points will blow if used with electronic ignition conversion.

describe the stumble, is it stalling/quitting - fuel, or breaking up/stuttering - ignition. check the reluctor to pickup gap, if it is too small it will break up at high rpm. also if your stock fuel inlet hose is 5/16" , the outlet should be no larger than 5/16". stock 80,000 mile springs should go to 5500 rpm all day with that cam, make sure there are no broken springs

Yes, explain breaking up. The fuel starv/lean bog is a total lack of power, like the heads just came off and a low deceleration fart out the headers. Ignition would be a crackle and pulsation of power, bit time missing. If it refuses to go past 3000 rpm floored but with no snap, crackle and pop its probably fuel related or timing but that would slso show on idle.
My old 2 stroke yamaha was famous for fouling plugs at the worst times, ie in the middle of death valley when i was already 1/4 mile behind the riding pack. Had to remove plug and clean it with a wire brush. Took about 5 minutes and always burned my gloves. That was classic fuel starve/lean out as there was nothing in the cylinder spark wise, same as nothing in the cylinder fuel wise. Wouldnt happen in V8 as there are 7 more plugs.

yes adjustable gap on dist.
Changed ballast, coil, dist. cap, rotor.
(Breaking up sounding as only firing on a few cylinders at best WOT)
Raining here today, hopefully check tomorrow.

Thanks.

Do you have a voltmeter? This should answer the question if your charging system is good or not.
- Measure the voltage right across the battery terminals while not running and after having set for 30 minutes or more; a well charged battery will typically show about 12.6-12.7 volts.
- And for a running test, measure the voltage across the battery temrinals at a fast idle, and see if you have at least 14.0 volts or thereabouts.

And what fuel pump brand and model are you using?

I have the newer style voltage regulator I will put that on tomorrow see what happens.

Thanks

FOUND PROBLEM.
BRAND NEW MSD COIL! NO GOOD!

Sorry to waste everybody's time but I should have known better.

Thanks to all!

With Marco X2 you did not waste our time in fact just the opposite it brought me back to k.i.s.s. (which rarely fails!)

It is one of those issues that has multiple possible causes. A new coil bad is not the expected one! Good deal..
