What's everyone using for an axle ratio and tire combo? Street, strip, or both

Running a turbo 318 in the Duster and currently have 255/60 15's with 3.55 gears from its NA days. Pulling a lot of rpm on the highway that seems unnecessary (over 3000). Wanting a little less highway rpm.

Thinking about 275/60 15s and maybe a higher rear gear but obviously keep a budget. I could do a 8 3/4 axle myself or a swap. found my sure grip to be not working so maybe even a axle swap would be better.

How tall is that 275 tire with weight on it? Could use an rpm calculator and figure out what gear would suit you best for cruise rpm on the highway but also let it accelerate as well

My tire now is 26" and the 275/60 is 28"

I have 275/60/15's and a 3.23 gear. It's not to bad. Lots of get up and go still and the highway rpm I can live with. I have a 727 tranny.

Thanks jack, I think I'd go one notch less and go with a 2.94 rear if I can find one. I have a 904 so my 1st gear is a little lower and boost comes in around 2000 rpm. My converter is a little loose and highway speed limit is 75 here

The goal would be to make a 40 mile trip to the strip

Been reading about a 8.8 swap. Seems labor intensive but I am a welder so it's not to bad. Unfortunately the off road crowd loves the lsd 8.8 and throws in big gears into damn near every axle around.

275/60/15 and 3.5 gears, sits just under 3k at 60mph. i can deal with that and the best part is not having to swap centers for the strip. i run a 9".

26" tire and 3:23's is 2700 @ 65 for me witn a 904 auto. Going to a 28" should put that around 2400 with 3.23's I would think. 3.55 just a little higher. That's not too high for the highway, unless you want to cruise 80

3.23 and 275/60 15 mt radials, drive 20 min to the track, run low 9s, drive home.

Very nice guys! Seems I can't go wrong with 3.23's. Probably be a little easier to find too.
