B body rear in an A body

Has anyone put a B body rear in an A? I know you move the perches in 1/2 inch on each side but what i'm wondering is will a set of stock rallye wheels cause me a problem via backspacing? The wheels are off of a 76' Aspen R/T. All your help and advice is appreciated

oh yeah, rear is out of a 69' Roadrunner
 
Yes it will fit,lots have done it. I have two A cars with 68-70 B rears.

The track will widen as the rear is about 3" longer. If you run a reasonable size tire you may not have a problem. You could measure where the tire sits now to the outer well and move it out 1.5" each side to get a rough estimate.

The wheels to sit in the stock location will require more backspace.
 
Crackedback would you be able to tell us what size tires you are running and how back space the wheels have?

I've heard of just bolting it as is, that the springs can take up the 1/2 inch on each side. Is that true, anyone done that?

Seen and heard of that too..just spread the springs a bit and it bolt in just need the right backspace on the wheels.
 
The two cars have 14x6 rallyes, IIRC and they are darn close to the outer well.

To get the tire in the stock location with a 7" wheel, you need about 5.5" of backspace. A pretty shallow face on the wheel.

I had a picture of the tire in the well, lost it. Maybe I can go take another.

I have one in a dart, I run stock steel rims with 235 60 14 tire. and have enough room to go with a bit wider tire if I wanted to.
 
I have one on my car. the tire is a 235/?- 15. 7 inch wheel but cant remember the backspacing. As far as the srpingsgo I think it was only a 1/2 difference total, not per side. either way just spread them a little. but my car has not been driving like it is, still working on that one
 
I just put a 8 3/4 from a 66 b body in my 71 duster. I had the spring perchs moved in 1/2 inch ($65) on both sides. The 65 - 67 B bodies 8 3/4 are about 1/2 shorter on each side then the 68-70. I'm running the 15/7 factory steel rim with p225 70 and I have another inch and half space towards the outside and a ton of room on the inside if I want to run more of backspacing.
I think the earlier 8 3/4 look better on the dusters and demons then the factory rear.
Plus you get the big bolt axles and bigger brakes.
 
I have one lying in my garage out of a B-Body that was in my 72 Demon. Its been in there for 25 years,and worked great. Had a 9x28 slick on the car with a little more offset on the wheel. Beefin the car up a little,so Im putting a whole different rear end in the car.

I Just put a b-body 8-3/4 form a 69 coronet R/T in my 73 duster. I am running wheel vintiques 15 x 8" steel wheels and 275/60r15 drag radials. the tire sits almost flush to the outside lip of the fender. I have not had any issues, and you could roll the lip if your springs are a bit worn just to be safe.....but it has been working for me. And you ge tthe added bonus of the 11" drums also (and a complete diff was $150....compared to ~$1000 for an a-body with small axles)
