Even so, you talked the guy down from his original price, so you get what you get.
That being said, the guy's attitude after the sale is total B.S. as well...

This almost sounds like your saying that unless a seller get his full asking price, he doesn't have to stand behind his product...that c ant be what you meant, can it?

I don't know, I see no detailed pics of heads or rocker arms. missing 6 USED head bolts.... he did you a favor.

I'm not reading al this stupid book, but two things. One, On a performance build with aluminum heads, I NEVER reuse head bolts and I don't know anyone who would. Also, regarding the ground rockers, this is a VERY common and ACCEPTED practice because the Mopars have such little room for larger diameter valve springs.

So, you're pitching a fir about USED head bolts and rockers with a known accepted modification. Take your BS drama elsewhere.
in a nut shell.

Hmmm. I have reused head bolts. ARPs. No problem. Never lost a head gasket. Some retorque head bolts after running a motor a bit. I dont but... . I have used torque to yield bolts. Torque to x ft lbs and tighten x degrees more. High dollar wrench. I will check into this. Maybe i just been lucky. Gen 2 hemi bolts cost! Always learning something.

I didn't say not to reuse any. I said on a PERFORMANCE build especially with aluminum heads.

...and just because YOU have done something doesn't make it RIGHT.

No.
What i mean is that if you talk someone down on their price, the patience from the seller wanes a bit sometimes to the point of 'what the hell do you expect from me?''
We don't know what was ACTUALLY said between the two parties on the sale.
All i can say is if it were me buying something like used heads etc. for over a grand, i would want to see them in person, other than that, you are taking a chance that they are good to go and complete.
And let the chips fall where they may especially if they are sold at a discount.
It still doesn't make it right for the buyer to be disappointed and blown off by the seller.............
This is precisely why i rarely buy something or sell something for that matter unless i can fondle it and look at it in my own hands before i buy and i expect the buyer would want that too.
There is a fine line in perception of the quality of a part vs value paid for some people.
However, If you stand behind your product regardless of the agreed upon price, and do all it takes to please your customer, it speaks volumes about your integrity.

OK, let me try to do some clarification here. Before I paid for these heads I checked every post he had and found that none of the previous posts that he sold parts on had been closed on the thread itself to see if members that bought from him were happy. I contacted or sent out PMs to those that had contacted him from his for sale ads and very few of the members responded back to me. Those that did said they did not end up buying the parts he listed. I also contacted one of the moderators here to see if he could give me any info on this member but he said he had no dealings with him so he couldnt say good or bad. Thats the reason I went with standard paypal payment so I had protection as the buyer. Had he said send the payment as a friend I would have never bought them. With the paypal protection I have 6 months to file this complaint. Thats cheap insurance I think!

Im not asking for pity on what I spent, Im simply stating the transaction as it happened as a warning of my dealings with him. Maybe it will help another member make a decision before buying from him.
I also gave him negative feedback as a warning to other members.
I was very patient as I went 11 days not getting answers from him and I also gave him a last chance to make this deal correct whether it was because of the used head bolts or not. He failed what I would call a good seller.

As for the actual parts I have the heads at a machine shop being gone over to make sure they are ok and with no cracks. If they are ok I will probably keep them and yes eat my lose! If they are not ok I will file the claim. either way this was some bad dealings by him and I want to make sure he doesnt do this to another member!

Jimjimjimmy, my builder said the exact same thing. He told me that if the correct length push rods are fitted then ordered/used very very seldom will the rockers need ground for clearance. Im no engine builder but we used the comp double springs on my J heads and he measured and ordered the correct length push rods and no grinding was needed with plenty of clearance. These heads/rockers I bought from superbeesrt8 he sent me a pm and I quote
"The heads are a friend of mines he bought them new they have been cut just to clean them up when we built a new motor has comp springs but don’t remember the number the cam was 256-256 600 600 flat tapper cam"
Hearing this I didnt expect to find the rockers ground for clearance as that cam was very close to my cam lift!

Now just to let you all know before I made the payment I sent this seller my valve lift .575 and duration @.050 262 to let him know what i was using them on since he claimed to be a builder. Here is his response to me and its quoted exactly as I received, " The heads will be a nice up grade over the ported J heads you have this is the frist set of heads I’ve sold off of this site we had them posted before but decided not to sell them".
The reason for the first set of heads sold comment he made was because I questioned him on a PM about other threads that he had selling heads previously but none of these threads seemed completed.
So I did do my homework before I bought these(as best I could) and had at least 12 PM messages from him where he answered questions, and then another 10 or more text messages from him.
Again if someone wants to see the threads we had back and forth please tell me how to copy and paste a PM message from here and how to download my text messages and I will be happy to post them.
Again, Buyer Beware of Superbeesrt8!!
Rod

Yeah well, new parts can have cracks too
yeah they can , but these things have already been bolted down and ran god knows how many times. there's been grinding and probably other mods made as well. for that kind of money, I would want them checked out before I dished out one penny.

For some it might not be much, but for me that is a BIG chunk of $$. I would be pissed and I think Rod has every right to be pissed. Grinding of any kind on anything should be in description.
@superbeesrt8

Sucks that buyers response was deleted. That's why I dont like my ads being closed prior to buyer receiving parts, but sometimes that is out of sellers control.
IMO buyers response should have been left up there.

The problem with leaving the response there would be all this stuff in that thread which would be irrelevant because this thread was coming. There are rules, regardless of how a deal goes. These involve the oh so unpopular feedback system too!

Here is the response in the thread and the seller's reply.

Wanted to update this thread as a warning. I ended up purchasing these heads. Deal did not go well and what I was promised did not arrive. I will open a new thread in his name to go into details. Just giving a warning for future dealings.
Rod

Yes let’s get the story started the parts were sold to you who did not have enough money to pay the asking price or shipping so we lowered the price split the shipping to help you out sent the heads out 2 days later with the heads rocker arms and head studs all together when the heads got there he said the boxes were beat up and 6 head bolts are missing the bolts were in a separate box in side the cylinder head box so he’s complains about 6 bolts that are missing with no pictures to show me what they looked like when they got there we worked with him on the price and ate 3 percent PayPal now he wants a150 for headbolts that sell for 65 now you have the rest of the story so he’s trying to make me out like he did not get his parts we’re talking about 6 head bolts

So here is my question: How much more would it have cost to get new heads and rockers? I would MUCH rather have new parts. In fact, I don't think I would even consider buying used performance parts unless I knew the seller. Plus I agree that I would never re-use the bolts.

I didnt say I was right, said maybe I was just lucky. I did a little research at ARPs websight faq page and well they say reuse is quite acceptable providing they havent been abused. For me its economics. Thats why I like copper head gaskets. Anneal and reuse. Of course only so many times.

So, why in the original ad is there no mention of the rockers being ground on? Or the fact that they weren’t his parts and he was selling for a friend? No pics of the porting, no close up pics of anything? Why is it so damn hard to picture everything and provide an accurate description of what the buyer would be getting, and fully detail the condition of the parts. For $1700, I would’ve expected full disclosure of all of the details, especially the fact that the parts weren’t even his. No way I would’ve sent $1700 answering this ad. Better just to buy new than somebody else’s used crap!

I happen to agree with Gary . On line sale of used parts is sketchy at best . My wife and I had a Mopar parts business for 13 years with N.O.S. and used parts . We travelled all over the Northeast to sell at swap meets and car shows . My customers could see the parts , ask questions and bargain with us . I have heard a thousand times "I'm on a budget ". Later to find he had a Hemi 'cuda . People who buy used parts without examining them are relying on faith and sometimes you get burned . My advise to O.P. is : you live in Mopar country (Pa) go to Carlisle , Maple Grove , York etc. to get the parts you need . Everyone wants to restore a Mopar for $1.38065 . It ain't no chevy .

Selling used mechanical parts has always been a slippery slope for any vendor I used to sell quite a few parts back in the 80's, 90's. I even learned to "mark" parts so if someone called it a bad part, I new it came from me and not his stash!!!! I do not miss trading parts.

The ground on and or ported parts should have been disclosed in the original ad. No excuse for that. The seller seems to say that "just because" he agreed to lower the price that that makes it "OK" that parts were missing. How stupid does that sound?

I still maintain that grinding on rockers is a very common practice......and in "MY" experience, correct length pushrod and all, sometimes it's still necessary. Even still, all that should have been disclosed, for 17 bucks or 1700. The seller needs to do something here.

Ok let’s set the record right I talked with you on the phone and texted you every picture you asked for. Then you said ok I’ll take them I’ll paypal you the money and you asked if there is anyway you could take less for the heads and pay the shipping. I said I’ll talk with the guy who owns the heads. He said he would help you on the price of the heads and split the shipping cost. You said ok I can do that. Then you cost him 3 percent when sending the money. I boxed up The heads and rockers and the head bolts put everything in the boxes along with all the bolts. You send me a text telling me you did not know the rockers were ground on. I explained when using bigger springs sometimes you have to grind the bottom of the rockers. I also said I just bought 1700 jesel rockers that had to be worked on. It’s rare that aftermarket parts fit right. Then you tell me that 6 head bolts are missing. I asked the guy who owned the heads to ck. He said they were all in the box with the heads. Then you want 150 for head bolts that sell for 65 on eBay. So are you missing the head bolts or just trying to get money back on the heads and this way you can feel better? Because you told me you were going to sell the rocker arms. Plus all packages were shipped with insurance on them that we paid for not you.
