My question is mainly where do I attach the chains to the engine to remove it with a cherry picker?

On my other engines (that I didn’t remove from a car) the chain runs from front to back at an angle? But my heads only have bolt holes on the passenger side…

Is there a more secure way to do it? I have an engine leveler but that won’t work if there is only 1 chain will it? Is it best to do it with an engine lift plate?

I’ve never done this before.

Now, that's ^^^^^ not a big block. It's a Ford 400, which is a small block, tall deck Cleveland engine. They're about 570 pounds as a dry long block. There, with all the tin, intake and accessories (I removed the P/S pump separately), it's well over 600 pounds.

Got a lift plate from O’Reillys and will use that to take the engine out. Thanks!

Use a carb lift plate with a tilting arm. Once you do it that way you won't go back. Easy one person install and remove, even with the transmission attached.

yep, those 400's are big. the block is almost exactly the same deck height as a 429/460 'real' big block and those cleveland style heads are a big old lump too.
neil.

Yes they are! ....and if this one fails again, It's gettin a 429 or 460.

Why not a 521? I built a 521 recently with Kaase heads. Makes about 900 hp with a stock truck block. These BB Ford's make more power than a BB Mopar could dream of/

If you saw my bank account, you'd know why. LOL Yeah, Jon's right up the road. I've shook his hand a time or three.

My buddy bought a Mustang named Karma that had a 460 stroked out with trick flow heads and it was insanely powerful with two kits of nitrous he broke his neck the first day he had the car and was on life support for a few months he totaled the car never got to really see the track...those tv shows had him thinking he had a no prep deal......NOPE

Have you considered dropping the K member, and just lifting the car, securing engine to it, then dropping the car down on it and re-securing the K member?

Yes I have, but I don’t know what to put the engine on or really how to secure it. The transmission is out and I figured it wouldn’t be all too hard to just pop the engine straight up, this only requires 2 bolts vs many more to get the K member and control arms and such.

Reinstalling it I’ve thought of going through the bottom with the K member. Since I have to remove all the control arms, torsion bars, steering and so on because I’m getting all new ones.

This is the only one I’ve seen, I think I’m going to get it even though I won’t use it nearly as much as some of you. Tony would have used one of these all the time, I wonder if he had one. Miss that man. I’ll be in Vegas in July and will probably drive by his house for the memories.
I know. So do I. He was a wealth on knowledge and always willing to share.

I don't think so, not dollar for dollar. I will be dynoing a 500" BBM shortly on the same dyno that I just had a 557BBF on, both are very similar builds.
