got a 2 bbl manifold from a member here (thanks rusty!) and getting a carb for it. I was thinking square bore Weber bolted up, but the offerings are all over map and I am not sure I am looking at the wrong thing.

I am not sure if I have to have that, or can jut run a cheap Motorcraft 2 bbl, or even an edlebrock 2bbl, carter, whatever.

I need it to be reasonably priced.

Like, what do you guys think about this one?

Carb suggestions?

i would run a early carter bbd or the holley 2280 you can buy a new carter bbd online for pretty cheap

I notice the carter is either used or a knockoff like "patrol" - did carter stop making them?

Ready for the square bore carb of your choice.

Are you going to upgrade the exhaust? I like the early 70s 318 bbd, but unless you upgrade the exhaust, including opening the manifold outlet up to either 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 it's really all for naught.

Okay so whats your recommendation? i said he can run a early carter bbd or a holley 2280, or just buy a new one. Sounds like your having a bad day? lol
What's there to disagree with about the knockoffs not being the real thing?
I got lucky last year and found a guy with a pile of OEM/NOS BBDs and bought 2. One went on my son's truck and the other one is going into mine. You don't get that luck every day.
Before I bought a Chinese wanna be carb, even if I had to start with 3-4 to get 1 good one, I'd build up a good original BBD or 2280. They aren't hard to work on, biggest issue I find is worn out throttle shaft bores. Which isn't the end of the world, that can be dealt with.
Besides that are the crusty ones that have sat for years full of old gas and/or got water in them, gotta be careful there.

Get a Weber carb, they are the best 2bbls. Try Redline/Racetep in Hollywood. Or one of the 6 cyl specialists like Clifford or Pierce.

On impulse I just got this off ebay. Let's see how it works. 74 to my door. Can't usually go wrong with stock, right?

Yes. it has an extremely restrive less than 2" exhaust out the back now, I am taking it to the muffler place and having a 2 1/2 all the way out installed the same week I swap out the motor.

What about the manifold outlet?

That will help a good bit coupled with the larger exhaust.

I kid you not, they put a stainless exhaust out the back- it hits everything on the ground, hangs way lower than any other point under neath, and is smaller in diameter than on my honda motorcycle.

They probably thought they were doing something, too.

You asked for the best......
Not the cheapest.......
Example: the t/shafts are mounted on ball brgs, last forever, no air leaks to give mysterious idle problems. Plus lots of other features, that is what you get for the extra $$$.

Point taken. going to see how this carter works at first. It is OEM. I am wondering now if they have a good rebuild kit, probably will need one.

That's an early 70s one before about 1975, I'd look at '73/74 anything with a 318 as a year make model to find a kit. Used to be you could take the number off the tag (lucky it's still there) and punch that in for a more exact original application.

Well.....he kinda asked a very specific question and I'm not sure he knows HOW specific himself.

His question was "best 2bbl carb for the super six"

To that question, there's only one answer and that's the Super Six carburetor. Anything else and it won't be a super six anymore, since the super six is a specific factory package that only came with the Carter bbd. So, that's the only choice, or else it's not a Super Six anymore, rather a slant 6 with a two barrel carburetor......of a different sort.

I would try to find the most modern rebuild kit I could. That way you'll get the latest ethanol friendly gaskets and parts. I suggest contacting Daytona Carburetor. They are very good.

Ordered, yep. Let's see how it all works when it gets here, Yeah, I don't have the terminology down with the /6, despite my years and years of mopar stuff, I usually just threw out the /6 for decades LOL- so I am probably saying the wrong things LOL. That manifold I got from you is going on the /6 I have.
