When I was at the track last week my car was hooking in the 1.76 range. No tire spin. any of you all wanna share some of your tricks for hooking in the low 1.6-1.5 range?

was launching the car @ 2200 I dont have much converter in it. I thought about just stabbing it off idle to see if that might flash the converter a little more. I have one of those 17k Mancini converters in it. But I dont want to run a bunch of stall as I drive on the street alot.

28x10.50 Hoosier streets slicks.
4.10 gear
launch at 2200 rpm (I know I will prolly need a bit more stall)
Super stock springs and shocks.

Would a set of adjustable shocks on the front help? would it be worth the cash?

Thanks

Pete

I have QA-1 12 way adjustables on all 4 corners of my car(66 Dart)XHD springs,4.30 spool with 28 inch slicks. This is behind my 408/904,I also have the lower first gear and a 8 inch 4500 stall.I rev to 1500rpm and stab it,my 60fts. are in the 1.56 area.Good luck.

Thanks Guys.

I will try the shock change first.

I was thinking about the 3 way comp engineering front shocks.
I didnt think about the QA-1's

My snubber is set at 1 1/4 from the floor. should I raise this up closer?

Yes raise it so it,s almost touching. When I had my rear out,I welded in an extra piece of plate there, for when the snubber hits so no damage.

If your suspension is working good and your not spinning the tires, to improve your 60' theres several ways to get it done. The easiest is to put your car on a diet, less weight less to get moving,More convertor but that is a trade off for street driving, maybe 2800 -3000? Lower gear to launch the weight, but if your motor won't pull the whole 1/8 or 1/4, your top end will suffer. Finally and the most expensive is more HP! Orrr maybe a little throttle in a bottle? eh?

I have a 408 73 Duster, 727 with a 4200 9.5" dynamic convertor. I have KYB's on the front, and SS springs, no snubber, and Mopar long extension shocks on the rear, into a 3.73 Dana. My best 60 times come with stabbing off idle. If I warm up the tires properly, I have no spin, it hooks and goes. I actually gotr lower 60' times with 295-45-17 MT Street than with the 28" 10.5 slicks I had, because of the lower gearing. Neither spun off the line.

My best 60' is 1.639, average is around 1.66. With the 1.639, I have a best 1/4 is 12.09 @ 110. I need more compression!

Try stabbing off idle, and also loading the converter to it's max.

Not sure shocks, etc. would help if you have no spin. Interestingly enough, the SS springs were so firm I get very little axle wrap and no hop, and have not bothered with a snubber, as my dana did not have provisions. A couple of racers I talked to confirmed this.

Without knowing what it ran for the rest of the 1/4, NOBODY can answer the question.

If it went 1.76 and ran a 13.30 at 100, it's a darn good hooking car.
If it went 1.76 and ran a 10.70 at 133, it's a lazy POS in the first 60'

What were all the incrementals including mph?

Thanks for all of the input.

Car went 12.89 @ 105.11
Running through the traps at 5600 rpm.

If I can get the 60' down I think a 12.60 uncapped and leaned out a bit in the primaries is not unreasonable.
Seems a little fat but would be ok for the juice. but I have not sprayed it yet because I want to get it tuned on motor first.
I have a 125 plate kit on it.

Combo is...

0.30 over 360
9.50.1 pistons 116CP pistons. Compression might be a little better with the E heads.
Lunati .480 .480 280 cam
M1 dual plane intake.
Quick fuel 750 carb ( dont know the jet sizes have not had it apart yet. )
Eddy heads out of the box.
with HD stock type rockers. (I know I should get some comps I had them and had to try them )
Small tube headers. (dont know the brand but, they are el cheapo's. )
Through 2 1/4 mufflers (blowmaster knocks offs)dumped at the axle.
727 with the mancini 175k converter not much over a factory high stall.
Manual VB
4.10 SG
Shifting @6200 pulls hard all the way through breaks the tires loose pretty good on 1-2 shift.

I dont have the incrementals handy but, They are with the car in the trailer ( Im lazy and have not even unloaded it yet :) )

What is your 60ft.?, it must be weak, i run 12.5s @ 104-105, so theres 12.5s in your car, i normally run high 12.5s with 1.79-1.80 60fts., mid 12.6s on 1.82-1.83. I think your problem lies in the 17K stall & 727 trans & "possibly" the 750, i'm running a 904 with a 2800 stall, 650dp, but with 3.73s.

Car looks good BTW, always liked the notchbacks

If it pulls hard to 6200 the 5600 at the end is leaving alot on the table. I wound say some 456's or 488's are in order.

LOL ! Back to the old drawing board :) 1.76 60'
just looked up the converter it is a 175k 2200-2500

I was going to go with a low gear set 904 but, I was too old school to let myself do it . wish I would have listened. they make those things pretty bullet proof now a days.

Yeah your 60fts. are better then mine, if your only trapping 5600 & shifting at 61-6200 you can stand more gear for sure.

The converter and intake manifold are probably killing it. It's missing about 2 tenths, maybe 12.60's

Call me crazy, move your shift points down. Like maybe 5500, it may surprise you. With that cam/intake, it may be all done at 5300-5500. Turning it 6K is just working it for no reason.

I thought about moving the shift points a bit lower.

I'll give it a shot and post my results.

Thanks for the input.
