Had a great day at Spring Fling XXV !

Hotter than snake piss ( typical for the 'Valley ) , but definitely not a deterrent 8) .

The best part of the show ( aside from its collection of beautiful rides and great swap meet section ) was meeting one of my heroes :
Big Willie Robinson :cheers::cheers::cheers: !

For those of you whom aren't aware of who he is , he's the founder of the Brotherhood of Los Angeles Street Racers , a national and international group of real gear heads .

He's a Viet Nam Veteran ( Airborne ) , whom upon returning home to L.A. after his tour , found his hometown in rubble and disorder following the Watts Riots of 1965 .

He recently lost his wife of many years ( Tomiko ) ; he met her in Japan .
He still misses her immensely , tremendously .

Never-the-less ...
GREAT guy who's cool as a cucumber and sincere ; very easy to talk to 8).

For those of you whom are going to the show tomorrow : Look for his Mad Max-esque R.V. ( you cannot miss it ! ) . He'll probably be inside chillin' out , or maybe out by the trailer with the race bike and far-out racecar .

Big Willie is one of the community's greatest assets ; one whom doesn't get much in the way of press and p.r. ( he can't stand L.A.'s "mayor" Carmine Ragusa , or whatever his name is ... ) , but is trying none-the-less .
So , do yourselves a solid and go talk to him 8).

Got a chance to talk with Big Willie last year at MATS in Vegas. We had a fun talk about when he used to show up at York Field in Whittier for some weekend street racing. Also talked about the 'after hours' drags at OCIR and Brotherhood Raceway on Terminal Island.
Willie's a living legend.
One funny story: years ago a friend of mine used to work at a little speedshop on Whittier Blvd. One day Willie comes in carrying a 833 4-speed under one arm and wanted to know if anybody wanted to buy it. It took two guys to take it from him - what he was carrying under one arm.
You wouldn't know it to look at him now, but Willie was seriously built back in the early '70s.
