Birth of a 1970 Dart Convertible

I don't know if you looked at all of the pictures, but it was in bad shape. I have seen the ones that was converted to an 70 and all that I looked at was not a true 70 build. So my goal is to build 70. I hope a answered your question.

Yep the ole scotchbrite rolocs and 90° screamer. Been there, done that, fixin to do it again. Nice work on that hood underside. I am dreading that with ours.
 
I am in Hartford, C., about 6 hours from you. I should have any part that you might need for a 1970 Dart Swinger 340, either NOS or good used. I don’t do body work but can help with Parts. I have bumpers from Tri-City that I probably will never use as I am working on 1971 & 72 canadian Special Darts.

On your 4th and 5th pix down on the hood, you should try naval jelly, and plastic on it to keep it wet. Multiple applications with a good wire brush scrubbing in between. Once its clean metal, rinse with trisodium phosphate and water mix to neutralize the acid and prevent flash rust.
 
The pic that has the cutout hole piece screwed to the 2 x 6? Did you screw the board to it to keep the hole saw pilot bit running straight? I wish I had done something like that when I bored the hole in my truck bed to install the B&W Turnover Ball hitch. It was hard to keep the hole saw running straight, and it wallowed a tiny bit on me! :BangHead:

Yes, I used a piece of hardwood.
 
post 328 pic 4 is also a good situation to use a spray rust converter like loc-tite.

get it as clean as you can, like the pics show you are doing, and it does a really good job on the stuff that's left in the hard to get pit areas.
 
In post 290 you show the gas tank, it has two straps like later years, did you add that to maintain the 70 illusion?
 
Why did you not paint the whole inside structure of the door? I see it done like this and have always been curious why.

I guess because it looked like it was painted like that. Thanks for the compliment. I don't know about the great work.

Maybe someone can answer a question for me. I thought that I got all my seals for my car, I looked for door seals and that is what I'm missing. I started looking and it looks like they make 1 for hardtop and 1 for convertibles. Does anybody know the difference?

The ones for the coupes and convertibles should be the same. You don't want the ones for a Sedan as they are different.
