I am not sure if this thread is in the right spot but my question is the following. Did Dodge only paint the best assembled and straightest bodies black?

That sounds like an urban legend. Back in the day, and even now to a certain extent, Chrysler didn't car about how straight the car looked. They had enough of a problem ensuring assembly line workers would show up for work sober or in a good mood to ensure build quality was 'good enough' to get the car on a dealer lot to sell. Keep in mind buyers of almost all of these cars used them for transportation and didnt plan on keeping them for many years.

No....the ones with the dealer-installed chrome valve covers were fastest, of course......

Ohh ok so the green ones must of been the most fuel efficient
oh and I have an original black paint '69 383-S 4spd notch.............don't look bad even today with the original RED sport stripe, 46 years later!!!!!!
