Black boxes

I am new to owning an A Body. I just purchased a 1974 Plymouth Scamp w/ no AC. There are two little rectangular black boxes under the far left and far right dash. They have a handle on each on to open up like a door. I am just curious to what these are. I know it might be a silly question. Any help?

Open them and go for a drive.

The one on the left is for beer, the one on the right is for nudie magazines.

Well, yeah they're fresh air vents. And very effective too.
But, I've been told, they're also outstanding places to hide an open adult beverage container should you happen to get pulled over.

First time you open them and drive the car might want to have safety glasses on.....
