Block ID question

restoring my son's 75 duster 360 car
getting ready to pull the motor, able to see VIN number, its not the original block
casting number is 4006830-360-3
cant see the casting date on pass side header is stil in car
I cleaned the pad on drivers side all visible is an R7
stamp
thoughts?

Was there a different VIN stamped on the block? If it was blank with no VIN, it may be a replacement engine if the original got blown up. That is the first scenario that came to my mind since the car is a 75 and the motor is a 76.

yes there is a different vin.
big blocks usually have more stamped on theid pad
 
I read that thread even replied
stillcan not figure out what the R7 stamp is
its the only stamping on the pad


You may have a warranty or replacement engine...

Especially if there is no stamped numbers on the front of the block below the head face...

I thought so too but there is a different vin stamped on the rail next to the pan

thinking the R stands for regular gas
7 =1977
cant really see the full casting clock on pass side

Probably a rebuild from one of the many engine shops around the nation. The vin number is on the passenger side along the oil pan rail. Kim
