I thought this was interesting. I got an earful here awhile ago when I put up a 426 stamped with AAQA....here is a mid 70's 360 with the same thing. I am sure this is a repeat discussion but am I looking at a block with higher nickel content?

I have a 1970 340 with AAQA also.

If it means anything special I have not heard about it yet.

In case you did not know though, it is a casting number (part of the casting itself) stamped numbers were added later.

AAQA is a foundry code. It means nothing unless the block is a 62-63 max wedge engine. All max wedge engines had the AAQA as well as the coresponding casting number on the side. However, some truck and RB blocks had the same carting number as some of the early max wedges but didn't have the AAQA. So unless it had both, it was a true max wedge block. So for max wedge engines, it's special. For everything else, nada
