Bonneville Landspeed Racing - Let's Try a Thing.

So, it got up to 28⁰ish in the garage once the sun came put. Was working on house stuff, so no real work on the Charger. But...I committed myself to a decision to remove the drip rails. No more waffling on the idea. Tomorrow will be cutting/grinding and welding up the seam. We will see how far I can get. I hate the shields fogging up.

That thing really does look awesome. It looks fast just sitting there. You are however going to need a hell of a hood to get all that stuff out of the path of airflow.
I don't mean to sidetrack the thread (well, i guess I do ).
@TT5.9mag/Mike, are you going to chuckwalla tomorrow?
(I'd use a pm, but I'm out of room).

I will allow it if you tell me what the hell Chuckwalla is. Lol

No sir. The car I was working on is not going. The owner has other obligations.

It’s a race track out in the desert of California. Used to be be just a road course but recently they opened a drag strip and host no prep events.

That's a sumpin of a sucker of a job. Un-removable sealer in between there. Makes a horrible mess. Ill never do it again.

You mean in-between the layers themselves or the sealer that they lay on top after?

I just read this entire thread. Outstanding job to date. Keep your enthusiasm up, you are almost there!

In-between. It was a chevy so not sure about the Charger. It was more of a little "heads-up". It may be just fine. Great thread btw.

I lucked out. Seam sealer just on top. Spot welds. Cut it all off this AM and tacked it. Little on the cool side

That looks like it’s coming out great so far. Easier than you thought?
Absolutely. All drip rails are shaved. Just a ton more tacks and more grinding. There are some rust repair areas that need addressed but overall much easier than I thought. Too much over thinking

I do need to sort out the best way to flush mount the windows now.

That is the sole reason I ran outside yesterday and cut the section off the A pillar. Stop thinking and just do
Gotta have faith in your own abilities sometimes and just jump right in to the deep end of the pool.

I've thought about flush mount myself. I was thinking about round steel bar.

Not sure how that would work exactly. Replacing drip rails with round bar? I am open to ideas. I think i will make an angle piece that has the vertical the window can screw to. I will have fixed windows in this car

I was referring to the windshield and back glass. I have no idea how you might do it on the sides.

Ah gotcha. I am going to leave the front and rear glass stock for now. The side windows will be flush as possible.

Well, working 4-4 everyday is reaking havoc on a couple bulged discs in my upper back. Doing ok, just not making the progress I want to. I did get the parts for converting the Tilton master cylinders to remote reservoir. It would allow being able to fill masters without being under the dash. I plan to mount it below the gauges on the upper console. Like this.

So I have been thinking this AM. I am going to finish the car and run in the 150 club in Sept. Then, for 2026, convert the car to a Daytona leaving as much else alone as I can. See what the car picks up for speed with aero alone.

What work is done to the tail panel to create a Daytona? Or is it just the wing and the back glass?

It is just the back window, the wing and in trunk braces from fender top to chassis. Back window is done. Have spoke to Grant Janak in length about Bonneville requirements. He is on board. Big issue I would like try to make the nose myself to save money and have a few subtle changes. So, would need to order the wing as i havent sourced a place for tapered air foil in extruded aluminum. And if I calculated wrong, something breaks at speed, it could be disasterous.
