I have something like 5 Fluke meters, all sooty, smelly and variously damaged after the house fire. My FIRST Fluke I ever had I bought new back in the '90's when I went to work for the Motorola outfit. I don't remember, I think I paid over 300 bucks, a Fluke 73-III. The thing got wet in the fire, heated, and the battery leaked, and THAT is what made a hell of a mess. It still powers up, I doubt it will ever be reliable.

For those of you unaware, a leaked battery onto a PC board basically forms a battery. Seems to be impossible to clean. I have? had? a Bell telco meter made by Simpson that was inaccurate, and finally, when I got it down to just the board and the meter (no battery), the METER WOULD STILL READ something if connected to the board. You could clean it with anything you wanted, and after a bit of time, the thing would "come back" and read some value.

So I bought a used 73-III off ebay for just under 50 including tax. No rubber boot, I have some of those

I still have mine that you graciously pointed out on ebay from several years ago. Works good.

Must be the time of year to buy electronics.

Just ordered a simple mult-meter and a OBD 2 Scanner, time for some new spares > need them all the time.

The Fluke 73 was the first "real" DVOM I bought when I entered the HVAC trade. Still have it, and although it's taken some dings, and it "overcenters" to the left (past the "Off" selection), it still works just fine.

Still have the original box and manual for it somewhere, too.

If you buy quality, it will last a lifetime.

Fluke MD88 I use mine darn near everyday . Love it. You can do dwell and it has Tach attachment.

Fluke 87 user. Bought in it 81 after taking a specialized electronics course. Free large case with it $340.00. Still works perfect.

I bought a Fluke 114 at Fry's awhile back when my Craftsman started reading AC voltage wrong. I've added a 117 recently.
The 114 is in the "take it with" tool bag now.

I bought my first fluke (a 23) off the Mac truck back around 1988-89.. Still have it, still works perfectly..
My second fluke (a 179) I bought twenty years later just another quality tool.... Does what it's supposed to every time..
