What is this bracket for? I have a 70 Swinger with bench seat and it doesn’t look like any console mounting brackets I googled. I’m installing carpet and this seems in the way. Thanks!!

Bench seat safety stop.

It helps to prevent the seat from slamming into the shifter in a collision.

Found on the manual transmission hump - even in bucket seat cars.

Yep. That threw me for a loop too. Eventhough I had bucket seats w/ center console.
I guess all the floors were assembled the same regardless of the seat option.
Makes sense.

Seems to me that if you hit something hard enough to break the seat loose, having it hit the shifter is the least of your worries!

Maybe more like if you are adjusting the seat forward this braket will keep you from knocking the car into gear?? When I put the seat in I'll do a test. Carpet would lay down better if it wasn't there but for originality I guess I will leave it.
