Brazil's rare barn find !

In the mid 70's, Mexican built Darts also had the Brazilian Charger's extended C-pillars. It appears that grilles and tail lights were Valiant pieces.
This on is currently on a Mexican classic car trader site.

Strangely enough, it appears that there may have been both Plymouth and Dodge Super Bees in Mexico based on the Duster and Demon body.

and even F-body Super Bees

http://www.autoclasico.com.mx/site/default.aspx?p=15&id_fol_auto=5895

Then theres the 67-69 Pillarless Valiant hardtops built and sold only in Mexico
http://www.autoclasico.com.mx/site/default.aspx?p=15&id_fol_auto=4787

and of course the early Valiant Acapulcos. The 65 was my favorite cause it had the Barracuda's grille. Otherwise I think the Acapulco was probably just rebadged Signet hardtops and convertibles.

...but I think my favorite of the Mexican built Mopars were the 67 Coronet 440 and 500 models which for one year only, featured the hidden headlight grille of the 66-67 Charger. I believe only 2 door hardtops and 4 door sedans were made and sold in Mexico, but at some point there were some convertible conversions made from some of the 2 door hardtops (possibly done when the cars were new).

In Argentina there were some really nice looking A-bodies as well. The basic body was also used on some Dodges built and sold in Spain. These pictures of the Dodge GTX and Dodge Polara RT are the Argentinian versions. The GTX had a 318 while the Polara RT with all its stripes was a slant six model.

The Dodge 3700 was the Spanish made version. It had round headlights but may have only been available as a 4 door

The early Dart A-body (1966 vintage) was carried well into the 70's in Spain with the addirion of rectangular headlights (only 4 door sedans and wagons were offered).

Thanks for these great pics & info about our "cousin's" Mopar, Jim !!!
I found these Argentian cars terrific, as to the Spanish & Mexican ones...Hard to say who's got the best look !!!

Yesterday I enjoyed the warmth spring sunny morning here and went to an old ruined church in my hometown just to make some interesting shots with our 79 Dart...Here they are, hope you like it:

Great pictures of your Dart. You're quite well skilled in the art of photography.
So have any of your Brazilian Mopar buddies ever traveled to Argentina to bring back an A-body GTX?

Jim, thanks for your kind comment on our pictures !
About the Argentinian GTX's to be honest I've never seen one here, and I believe they're even rare in their country too...I've never been to Aregentina, but I hope to go there next year because it's not too far where I live, shure I'll bring some pics from our neighbour's too.
See ya !!

Buzian, thanks for the great history lesson and the amazing story behind these fine gems. I love the Brazillian models, especially the Chargers. I was not aware of the SE model, boy would I love to have one of those. Please, please, please keep the pictures and stories coming.
Bob

I think this is the best thread of any kind I have ever seen.

Excellent photos, even the phone photos, a ton of rare info.

And another thank you for taking the time to do all the posting!

Best thread ever.

Thank you guys for all positive messages sent !!
It's very interesting to notice that we hadn't neither much Chrysler factory's too much time working nor lots of cars made, but afeter all we're the responsible ones to keep that Mopar spirit alive in our country...
I know some real fine and abnegated guys who make it work too, and I'll not list them because I can make the hard mistake of forgetting one or two, but I can you all folks, this is no easy job trying to mantain the Mopar fire burning inside us, it's like a religion, you know...
Hope to have more & more interesting news about our local A-bodies ever !!!
And of course, the invite to come here to visit us is extended to all of you who wants to see some of these fine "survivors" in our country, okay ?
See ya !!

Now these tail lights are the reason I like the 75 and up Chargers. They are recessed just like the tail lights on a 69 Road Runner or GTX. But I like the egg crate grille on the 73-74 better than the vertical bar grille on the 75-78.

Jim,

These rear tailights are the prettiest in my opinion, like them very much !!
They were entirely designed by our local people and freely inspired on the 69's as you stated...
Today they're very sought-after original parts and quite rare to be found in new or even in decent shape, lucky us to have some specialized workmanship that do miracles on bad rotten pieces...For just an idea, a pair of these complete perfect tailights can match a thousand dollars or more in our local market...Very expensive indeed !
And sure I prefer the egg crate grilles used on the 73/74 models too, they're very rare nowadays because lots of owners decide to "upgrade" their older Chargers to the 75/78 looks with the chromed vertical bars, the rear tailights and some flashy side stripes for this kit, even supplied by our dealers !!
It's not piece of cake to mantain our Darts & Chargers completely original...But it's very worth the price, LOL !!!

Hi fellas !!!
It's me again just sending some fresh new pics to share here again...
Now a very sexy one: a photo session with some A-body lines dressed in white with black stripes: 1972 Dodge Charger R/T !!!
Have fun !!

Oh man, I didn't think I liked the 72 Brazilian Charger RTs as well as the 73-77 models. The grilles weren't quite as distinctive and they didn't have the twin bulge hoods. But this car and your photography skills make this a stunning example. I love it!!

Thanks Jim !!!
Just a few facts about our brazilian Chargers, if you go through the production numbers from 1971 till 1980 you'll notice that the 1972 are some of the rarest of the brew...Very little production indeed, because all focus on Chrysler was to launch the new front grille that happened in the 1973 till 1978 models, and these older R/T's are very hard to find...I really enjoy the stripe schemes on this one, very aggressive for the times...
Here are some shots from the early original 1972 catalogue:

Our great friend Lincoln has an impressive array of Dodge cars, and it's very well explained when we see these pair of images on him back in the early seventies...He's one of the kids just washing his granddaddy's brand new 1972 Charger R/T, this car was lost in the eighties but today Lincoln has three cars from this year/model, all R/T, one metallic green, one silver under restoration and another white just waiting for the painting job...

And to close on this 72's subject a shot from archives just showing another R/T on the right being sold in a traditional used car lot:

No slant six in brazil?

Grinder, we never had the slant six engine produced here in Brazil, all local A-body Dodges used the 318 V8 engines instead...
But our neighbour Argentina had these Sixes on regular production, and some 318 V8 only for special models, these were imported from Brazil.

Hi, fellas !!!

Last saturday we went to a monthly meeting at a town near home, and here are some cool pics of our beloved A-body Dodges in the area...Next saturday, BARBECUE !!!
More to come...

Jim, believe it or not, my camera batteries let me down...So I couldn't manage to record the car coming to the meet...
But not all was lost, I was with my cell phone, and I used it to register some images, of course !
Here are some shots:

1974 yellow Dodge Charger R/T, not one, but TWO twin brothers !!!

And of course, there was a burnout contest, and the winner was...A 1979 four-door LeBaron !!
Just look on this video his attempt to blow off a pair of tires(sorry, the images were poor because I did it with my cell phone camera):

Man, we had lots of fun...Cool cars, cold beer, a big barbecue and lots of talk too !
Now, as the end of this year is coming we'll have a break...
I'm going to my hometown, São Paulo, in a two week's time, and I'll meet some very fine Mopar friends there too...Sure I'm gonna take tons of pics to share with you, guys !!!
See ya !!!

Looks like a nice show. Love all the black marks on the street out front.

Jim, we all do love them too!!
But not the police, LOL !!
We stopped the local traffic to do thr burnouts, but no rush...The smoke covered all the place for minutes, and the smell, ahhhh the smell...
Love it !!!

I scored this on ebay, it is comming from Argentina. New old stock Valiant emblem, 9 inches long, 3 inches tall, any idea what year or model this is for? I had to have it!
