I ordered a set of Brodix B1-BS aluminium heads on monday. 2 to 3 weeks untill delivery. I had a head gasket blow after 3rd round on sunday, on my 440, with cast iron 915 heads. The gasket blew out the back of the head towards the firewall. I figured I would up grade to the Brodix heads, while it is apart. Anybody know the weight saving, by switching to these heads?? Any guesses on horse power increase, or et gains?? If not, I will find out in 3 weeks I will weigh the car on the same scales, that I weighed the car on 4 weeks ago, and also run it down the track and see how it runs! The Brodix heads have a 65cc chamber, I don't remember what the 915 head cc is?

The B1/BS head should net roughly a 30-40lb weight savings. I think these are a very good head that is underrated by magazines and others. I also like the small combustion chambers, 65 cc on a big block will yield a good gain in compression. The 915, depending on how much they are milled are roughly 76 cc's. Horsepower gains are hard to guess, 40 horse? It all depends on how well your 915's were ported and if the B1's are ported. I'll guess approximately a 2-3 tenths improvement. If you have domed pistons be sure to check piston to head clearance, with this small a chamber this should be done. I'm glad someone is doing this swap, I wish you the best of luck. Keep us posted on this, I'm really interested in the results.

The heads have been on the car for 3 weekends of racing. I finally got back to MapleGrove Raceway this weekend, so I could weigh the car and compare its et's to earlier this year at the same track, with similar weather conditions. My old heads were 906 heads, not 915 heads as I stated earlier. The car weighs 45 pounds lighter. With similar weather conditions to the last time I was at MapleGrove on May 7th or 8th, the car picked up .20 to .25 et., from 10.05et- 10.11et in May. To a New best et of 9.841et - 9.87et on saturday June18th. Also picked up 1-3/4 to 2 mph at half track and finish line. Rpm's are about 300 higher at finish line. The 60 foots also dropped from 1.329 to a new best of 1.308. The Brodix heads that I installed , are just as they came out of the boxes. They will get ported over the winter, for a little more POWER, for next year! According to my Performaire weather station, the car should run 9.65et's in the good fall weather!! It was a good weekend (not a great weekend), I lost second round on saturday, with a red -.003 light. On sunday , I lost 3rd round , with a red -.007 light. I had to dent 3 header tubes when I installed these heads, the 3 tubes were replaced before this weekends racing. Also , the heads are about 1" taller than the cast iron heads, raising the valve covers about 1", hitting the underside of the hood. So I had to raise the hood about 1/2" , to clear the valve covers.

Thanks for the info. So this is a comparison to a heavily ported 906 and a box stock B1/BS? Nice results. This came at a good time, I may have cracked a head in Canada last weekend racing. Started teardown last night to find the source of the leak. This sucks 40 runs and the motor already apart for repair.

The 906 heads were heavily ported , milled, and also the quench was welded in and then machined flat. My 906 heads , started to seep water on the outside, right below the header flange. I got them hot last year ,before I worked on the cooling system.

What headers do you use with the B1's, i am interested as i've been offered a set of ported B1/BS heads for my 440 Dart.
Mike

I have a custom built set of headers. The Brodix heads have the ports moved slightly from the stock cast iron heads.. Ports are up a little, out to the side of the car a little, and a slightly straighter angle up and down. I had to have 2 tubes on each header modified a little.
