Broken Starter ear?

yesterday i started up the cuda and drove down the street not even a mile. When i got back i turned the car off and then attempted to start again and the starter just spun and did not turn engine. I got out and looked up at the starter and found the top starter ear was busted off. What can cause this? thanks Gonna pick up a smaller style starter tomorrow.

Most I have seen where from over-torquing, dropping during install, or not being seated in the hole properly during install.

Its an old starter probably was installed wrong at some point. Threw another one on today thx

Can anyone give me more information on the Ram Mini starter or a smaller starter for a 318. It's for a 1966 Plymouth Barracuda. THX!

i was quoted about 100 dollars plus core for a smaller starter at Carquest. It was for a 90 Dakota i believe should work.
