ok so i have 302 heads that i purchased and what im looking for is some help for parts to use with them and what to do with them here is what i know so far and what i need
im using a LUNATI 292 480 cam

im going to gasket match to 360
put 1.88 and 1.60 valves
crane cam single spring good up to 490 lift
some bowl work
block the little exhaust holes

what push rods should i use?
what rockers should i use?
should i use gold valve guides?
what kind of valve locks
what kind of valves stock or manley swril port ones?
and anyhting that would help thanks

Are we drag racein the car? Then stock P-rods will do. A comp cam pushrod is fine for your useage if you want to step up alittle.

Stock rockers can be replaced inexpensivly by the MP HD Hyd. rockers.

Bronze valve guides, not gold are what your looking for. There fine for your use. There mostly used with cams over .500 lift. There fine for cams under this lift as well.

Use any lock that fits for general use, MP locks are good with there valves.

OEM valves are fine if back cut in general useage and light performance. Theres better valves than Manley to use. MP for starters.

I would use the 1.78 Ferrea valves on the intake and use the 67-69 340 style exhaust valves. I wouldn't use a manley valve or a undercut valve as the lift that your using doesn't promote high lift flow and these valves will help get you all the flow at low lifts as possiable, but I would do a backcut on the intake side only as the style of the exhaust valve wont like it. This is how we make the HP that we do, with a similar setup. But this is my opinion.

He he he, I thought you were gonna get busy doing some head work....he he he

is this a cam a little small? i saw one that was 292 509

and i saw on moparts a head with 2.02 valves with 1.60 ex is is this to big for the 302?

and isnt the 1.78 the orginal 302 valve size?

o and i jsut found out that the 302 pushrod size is 11/16 this is ok on my older 318 correct?

The .509 cam is too large for the 318 engine, without a steep gear and a loose converter as it's 244 @ .050.

The 2.02 valve is ment for higher rpm engine, and secondly the port of the 302 head won't be able to utilize the valve size, in fact we are getting that amount of air (cfm) that they are getting with a 1.78 intake valve. The problem is that the larger the valve gets in a small port the slower the air speed gets, and the port efficency fall's way off.

As for the pushrod you should be OK.

i see how you say small port 302 would this be the same even if im enlarging the port to the 360 size jsut like in that link
and im planning maybe 3.55 or 3.73 gears with sure grip and a 3200 stall

The 302 ports vary from 115-120 in factory castings, then when you open the port up to the 360 gasket and port the bowl you will be somewhere around 130-134 cc's, even at this size the 1.78 is the best, and really up to 140 cc's. Most 302 heads can't and wont be hogged out to this size, as this is done by welding and raising the port roof line, which go's beyond the scope of the home builder. A factory 340/360 head comes from the factory at 150 cc's or there abouts, but is too large for the 318. We have found that 130-136 cc's is best with a 1.78/1.60 valve sizes. This should put you in the 210-220 cfm range and over 300 HP to the tires, or be capable of it.

Well, some how I figured it would take a head man to show you what we have been tryin to say......... :sad1:
