Transmission swap??
Yes, I was gong to just fab up the mount myself, but this is such a nice piece. Not to mention, I hate laying under a car and welding, plus this just takes away the mental anguish of overthinking everything.

It does look like a work of art.

Tinkered for a few last night.. Long enough to cleanse my brain and offer it some relief.

The vent hose has been on my mind. Hits pretty good in the tunnel and I really didn't want to cut father forward.. Ac/heat box is there and I'm not taking that thing out again.. If I do, it'll be for a ac upgrade.

Anyway.. Took some misc pieces and parts that I had and relocated the trans vent.

I was able to sleep peacefully after that.

I previously ran a 1.08 t-bar, Hotchkis shocks, and their sway bars. You will read online that big bars will beat you to death. That statement couldn't be more false. If you have a good shock to control the spring rate a big bar offers, you will be good.

agree 100%. i'm running 1.08 bars and 130 pound rear springs with a simple bilstein shock.. car rides great. i also have a hellwig front bar on it..

Unfortunately, the HDK 8HP70 trans X member won't work for my application... My engine/trans is only 5/8" forward, where HDK is 1" forward on his K members... yes, really, that 3/8" makes all the difference. The lower mount was a good fit but it's intended to be used with the upper hoop mounts, that fill a gap between the lower mount to x member. It could be filled with shims, I suppose. The hoop and hoop mounts was where I ran into clearance issues. Drivers side was rubbing the trans and the passenger side was just really close to the trans plug, meaning the trans has to be dropped a little to add or remove the plug. Plus the hoop rubs on the rear of the trans housing.. barely. I spent most of Saturday, trying to figure out a way to make it all work.. Just didn't see a way without altering the kit somehow. And if I'm going to start altering something, I might as well just make it.

So yesterday, I just went ahead and mocked up my own lower and created a new upper hoop design. I plan to weld it in, but it could be created as a bolt on version as well. It should give me the lowest trans tunnel height possible.. with my setup or stock. I took my cardboard hoop patterns to a friend that operates a local steel/truck bed/dirt car chassis shop, to have my upper hoop cnc cut and formed. I've not seen another like it.. hopefully that's not a bad thing haha.

I did share my drawings and ideas with Denny, just in case he wants to pursue some of the stock location stuff. He's more than welcome to any ideas that may help.. I promise, I won't get butt hurt and scream that someone stole my idea.

Also, a huge thanks to HemiDenny, for allowing me the opportunity to at least try it. The agreement was.. send it back within 30 days, (undamaged) for credit back, if it doesn't work out.

Took my rough mock up and turned it into something a little more finished. I'll piece them in and get them tacked together for final welding.. maybe tonight.

Upper hoop formed. I wanted the hoop to step back behind the transmission, rather completely over the top of it.. Much lower tunnel. So I stepped it back 1".i believe if If I move my front tunnel cut cut forward, I'll have a pretty straight line without any humps. I'll get it test fit tonight... Hopefully in 1 take.

8 speed auto is gonna be major improvement. Looks like 2.73 gears for Ford 8.8 available new if you decide to go that route. Fox body guys swap those out and throw them in the trash.

Weekend update. Hoop, mount and tunnel are marked off the list..

I cut the floor to allow welding inside the x member and added the the internal bolt support back in... original location gets cut off.

Ill get a driveshaft order in and should have for the upcoming weekend.

If you get a driveshaft this week, you have to throw the seat in and go for a ride! I know you probably still have all the wiring stuff to do, but dang, what's taking so long?

Impressive work.

What's the inside radius of the hoop? At some point I will be building a crossmember for my T56, be nice to set it up to fit an 8HP just in case something changes later on.

I see, you’re dragging your feet…(sarcasm)

Tempting.. Wiring the easy part, aside from keeping it tidy. I just sent the shifter to Sublime for a handle/knob mod.. He needed one to use, to make a DIY video.. Pictured is one he did for a charger. I'm really leaning towards butchering a stock console to use with my bench.
Impressive work.

Message an address.. I made a tracing of it before welding it in

Guess I'm just a slacker

Picked my driveshaft up from Pattersons yesterday. 1350 front (Sonnax) and rear (8.8) and 3" tube. Good for 1000hp

Over drive trans is best mod one can do on these cars. Can have off the line acceleration AND low RPMs on highway both no compromises.
