ca. black plates

hi folks i'm looking for some input on using the ca. black plates that were used between 1963-1969. i would like to buy a set for my 68 barracuda.there are a few on e-bay that say dmv clear but will i be charged more money when i go to the dmv with the plates i buy and renew the registraion? the white plates i have on it now are just plain ugly

Why not just paint your own black and yellow ? I doubt the cops will ever know . I mean , it is your license # , just tell them that it was like that when you bought the car .....
 
I think they take them from you now and give you the new plates when you register it in your name...

I just went through this recently , if you request to keep the black plates they make you fill out a form and pay $20.00 .....
