What's a good cam for a 71 340 with a eldebrock air gap intake and 650 edelbrock carb. 8 3/4 rearend and 727 automatic stock exhaust limited budget just for street.
 
God. Not another pick my cam for me question? Call a cam company. It's there job. Not our job!

Listing all of the measurable factors will help with your cam choice. It is good information to have when dealing with a cam manufacturer too. Ya know... so they can do THEIR job. lol
 
The one that it was born with?
The AirGap may be a bit more intake than you need with the factory cam, so if you have it great install it, it certainly won't slow you down.But if you don't already have one, then consider what you do have.

About the cam;it really depends on the application, and the combo. Someone could tell you what works in their hot-rod, but it might not be the best one for a tow-truck, or a race-car, or a DailyDriver.
A cam for an 11/1 engine would not be the best for an 8/1 engine.
A stick can use a different from an auto
And 4.30s would take a different cam than 2.76s
And 4000 pounds or 3000 pounds.
So hang tuff, you'll get it sorted soon enough.

Comp XE262 or 268H
Lunati voodoo 402 or 403 or whatever the new number is.

These will work with a stock converter if tuned properly.
 
Ask away, thats what the net and fabo is for. Just sift thru the responses.
There are all sorts of variables that affect a good cam choice.
Do some reading n research. LOTS of science involved with cams. I have lots yet to learn. Im hoping to start a slightly humped up 340 build here shortly.

Tell us a little about what you're wanting from the engine and what it's in.
Things like cranking compression,Convertor stall, year,make and model, and rear gear you will be running.

The only info missing is the gear ratio, tire size and weight of the car. Otherwise, you didn’t do to bad. ;)

Hang in there Ernie. It is a bummer you met the forums *** first. You started a thread topic he can stand and it is one of the most popular questions asked.

Oh! By the way, the opinions on cams vary as much as the verify of women and change more often than socks on a rainy muddy field. You will find that even calling a cam company will yield different results every time a new person answers the phone and it will change the next day.

He kind of did and did mention he, IS NEW at this. He probably has no idea what his cranking compression is since he didn’t know about everything to list for a good and reasonable suggestion in the cam.
