swift current sask, can.
Just got my 340 motor back from the machine shop, bored 30 over and balanced, heads are done with the big valves, the guy says he put in a mellings spd-22 cam shaft. Can someone tell me is this a good cam shaft for this application? This is a 4 speed car with 3.55 gears. Thanks Darryl

That cam is a puppy dog in a 340 especially on a 114LSA. 209/220 429/444 lift

I have the next one up 214/224 443/465 lift. It lays over at about 5300. It did run right at 102 in the 1/4 in my 4 speed dart. My Dart sounds pretty good at idle, very slight chop.

If you want some lope. Look for something bigger and on a 108-110 LSA.

Well since you drew first blood, I agree, this is not much of a cam for your 340. Not a big fan of Melling Cams. I have the Hughes HEH2328AL in my 69 Dart that works real good to about 5800. Nice idle. You with a 4 sp I would go to the next one the HEH2832AL.

if im not mistaken thats the "stock"replacement 340/360 4bbl cam.it has a smooth idle, and a broad flat powerband.i ran it in a 318 once and was rather un impressed.cam choice is a highly debated subject.personally for most "performance" applications i like a narrow lsa.the cam in my 340 is on a 108.it really depends on what your going for.

i ran this cam an like it ..... thought about putting it back in just to tame things down a bit , it an easy driver , good idle, good low end torque .... cam's are of your preference every one has a different option on them . drive it for a while if you dont like it change it . the duster i had for years ran low 13's with it 391 gears ,shifted 5500 ,an spanked alot of the bow tie boys . its all preference
