I’m a bit nervous here because I put together my magnum 360 with a long snout cam from Hughes but did not use the cam washer and bolt. I had a ton of parts on my work bench and just now found the washer and bolt. Never noticed any issues when I put the engine together? It’s my first build. I’m pretty far along in having it back together. I’m going to run electric fuel pump if that matters. I think I’m screwed? I’m hoping I am wrong and I don’t have to open things back up.

Open it back up. Those parts are needed to keep the cam located properly. And make sure you use the LA washer on the long snout cam- the Magnum washer is too shallow to use on a long snout cam.

I bought the proper set from Hughes. Does it go in the front of the cam?

Also does
Yes, the 65lb/ft of torque clamp load of the bolt keeps it together.
ok so I have in possession 7011 bolt and washer kit. Looks like the correct one. Does the timing set come out. I have it right on the money right now and hate to dial everything back in. Sorry about the tenacious writing I’m trying not to throw up.

Remember if your eliminating the fuel pump eccentric there is a special deeper machined washer to do that with the keyway cut in. I may have some extras in the machine shop . We don't use the eccentric on our race motors.

The eccentric won't fit behind our timing covers

Bolt (B) and washer (C, J, or K) threads on from the outside face of the cam sprocket. No need to remove the gear unless you forgot the cam plate (F) too.

Do I have to remove the timing gear and chain? Or does the washer go behind the cam bolt? I’ve looked for pics but haven’t seen anything.

Yes!!! Great news on the washer install. Awesome pic. Guess it could be worse. I could have started it. Thanks so much ellison and professor fate. I can now go backward to move forward.

As the professor said, The cam plate holds the cam in place and the eccentric washer and bolt hold the cam timing gear and eccentric in place. You’ll def need to break it down to this level but the gears and chain shouldn’t have to be removed if your careful. I’d def put the #1 cylinder at tdc though before busting it open.

Looks like the wrong washer in the picture. I could be wrong but the washer looks to flat unless it is a machined recess washer on the rear.
Also get a grade 8 bolt and drill a hole in it for the top passenger side or leave it out. Just some info I thought I would pass on.

What’s the larger round piece surrounding the cam washer? Also thank you for the pic. I did mention that I’m going to use an electric fuel pump? Thanks for all the help. I’m a whole lot less freaked out now.

That's the fuel pump eccentric for a mechanical furl pump. You don't need it, since you're running an electric pump, but the right washer needs to be used.

The washer is the Hughes machined that they want used with their cams on magnum engines. It’s very thick and has the key way machined in it. After I saw it and compared it to stock I don’t think it really matters which type you use. A money maker for them maybe.

What are you using as an assembly guide/manual ? Do you have a knowledgeable helper ? Proper tools and specs ?

As for materials or someone helping me?
I’ve been using a book that shows how to rebuild a small block Chrysler engine most of the info is for a magnum but I overlooked the washer. Feel pretty dumb about it. A lot of the people on here have been more helpful then the book actually. Just learning as I go. Body work is more my back ground. Heck I teach body work to high schoolers. I’m restoring a 65’ Barracuda that was a slant 6 car but when I got the car it was a roller. So a lot of starting from scratch. The car found me in some regards. I overheard a former student talking about crushing an old car he had to make room for his graduation party. I called the Dad and he sold me the roller and a horrible parts car for $600. So now I’m proudly an Abody guy. Body work is nearing completion been at that for 3 years. Final sanding then sealer color and clear in the spring.

Yea I noticed that too. I took it off and straightened it out before putting it back together. No pic of that though.
